PS3 or PC, and why?

Post » Tue Oct 20, 2009 12:19 pm

From the way I see it

PC
-Easier to aim (for me)
-easier use of SMART system with mouse
-I have my webcam mic but no PS3 headset

PS3
-not nearly as many (if any) hackers!
-better chances of running smoother (lag, etc.)
-less player community? less use of voice chat? (can't be verified)

I've never really played PC FPS games, so I'm a little attached to the nostalgia of a shooter on the PS3
Also...I'm worried about one (either) of the communities dying out, so it's only worth playing it on the other system.

What do you think?

IMO, Ps3 would be the way to go. If your good at FPS on ps3, when it comes to aiming etc...then it beats the pc.
Also I think that the SMART "button" would have a better experience on a ps3 controller....I don't know why but i just think it might.
Plus you got a pretty cool community on ps3 with less hackers :)

In every scenario I can imagine, I would prefer the PC over a console if playing a FPS.

Consoles are excellent for racing and adventure games, but the PC wins in shooters.

On both counts you're wrong, aiming on a mouse is more precise, on the console everyone plays at a lower level because of toggle switches for aiming, and then you said smart would have a better experience on a ps3 controller? Even basic wasd is better for movement at least for FPS, and you have to add together the fact that you can't turn as fast with a toggle, nor can you be as precise as you can on a PC.

The controller is inferior to the keyboard and mouse for FPS, and its been shown (however loosely) that mediocre PC users beat out Pro console users hands down.

Also, the PC would possibly have a mod community, and all that, and is usually cheaper than the PS3 games that help pay off other peoples console costs.

Of course that was your opinion.

Yeah. Even though it's been tested and proven, I still aim much better with a ps3 controller. I just like it, that's just me. I don't like pc for any game what-so-ever (other then strategy) because I just can't seem to get used to it.
That's just me.

After playing on a PS3 for shooters for a long time I got COD4 for PC but I just couldn't get into it as well because I was so used to the PS3 for controls.

meh, i like consoles better for video games, plus i read the Q&A on BRINKish and like 5 "questions" were PC gamers pissing and moaning that they put iron sights in, made me frustrated with them at the moment, whiny babies. Anyway, i have a PS3 and who knows, maybe we could see each other >:)

I have found coming from a FPS intense background in gaming and ALWAYS using a PC that you will 9/10 find a more skilled , hardcoe, and competitive community online.

PC's only struggle because people have this HUGE misconception that you need to have a enthusiast level gaming computer to play new games.

Mid tier systems that run you about 6-900 dollars can play games for 2-3 years and beyond if you are smart and build it around the idea of being able to upgrade in the future.

Than.. its just maintenance a new video card here and there.. which over the years will cost you considerably less than buying a new gen console only to be stuck with the same hardware until they force the new one on you.

PC's by FAR offer THE BEST gaming you can get.

Point blank.. skill , graphics, community anything you can think of inbetween

PC for me, mainly because i svck balls at using a controller.
tried getting into consoles but unfortunately did not work out for me.
hardware wise my computer is still up to date considering some of it is 6 years old, just might have to do a small upgrade in the future though but i`ll make the money back by selling said older hardware.

Agree Whole Heartedly. I used to be a heavy console player until I started to look at the cost of maintaining console awareness with every genertion of consoles that was released. If you know what you are doing which is not as difficult as ppl make it seem you can build a decent rig for around 600 and every year make neccassary upgrades where needed. And still not pay as much as console re-ups every 3-4 years or so. plus so many other uses come out of a PC rather than a console. I'm not here to knock any console players but if your concern is a budget, over the years your pc will save you alot more.

PC for sure with out a doubt. Console fps are no good imo and feel super slow. Plus the pc always has a great community because of dedicated servers, so you play with who you want. Not to mention MODS that expan the life of the game.

I wouldn't use a couple of players to quantify an entire community.

Will depend on the uptake on that format in my country. I've been playing FPS games since Doom multi on a modem, and now I'm at a stage where the kb/m Vs pad thing is not an issue for me any more. They are both pretty cool in their own way.

Well the PC is much easier to aim as you said, then there is also mods, easy clan systems, better servers and in my case, the pc runs smoother than my PS3.
So basically, unless you have a decent, up-to-date pc then PS3 is probably your option.

I would love to see that match and what is considered mediocre and pro

Or you can get a ps3 for $400 and can play games for 4 years and counting.

I've been playing on PCs for 25 years but I have only had a PS3 for 8 months. For me it's a pretty easy decision. I've tried a few shooters on the PS3 and just can't get my head around the controller.

It was a study Microsoft was doing for a project of theirs

heres a quick google, I don't keep a link on hand

explanation of the study
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEwqqh8eHy8

http://www.rahulsood.com/2010/07/console-gamers-get-killed-against-pc.html

quote from the first link "
There was a project that got killed at Microsoft. This project was designed to allow console gamers and PC gamers to interact and battle over a connected environment. Personally I wish it would have stayed the course. I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative. Is this why the project was killed Who knows, but I'd love to hear from anyone involved --- what happened?"

can't quite find the article from gamesradar, or maybe it was PCgamer, which explained the study or I might have seen it at geekologie, either way I still think you get the jist, I didn't pull this "study" out my wazhooo

@ your 400$ comment, I can also say that you also pay to subsidize other gamers consoles, its one of the reasons your ps3 games cost so much

Everything you posted said that some guy said the some guy said..... there was no proof no was there anything that said what mediocre is supposed to be, or pro for that matter. Im not saying it isn't true, I am genially interested in seeing this study, I wanna know what constitutes a mediocre pc player and what constitutes a pro console gamer.

PC gives better fast reactions. It isn't the gamers, it's that mice move faster than a joystick would. Personally, I'm moving off console onto PC for my FPS games, but my PS3's going to still be there for all the other stuff. Except RTS.
