PS3: Fallout New Vegas: Crashfree?

PS3 on Fallout New Vegas

PS3 Slim 120 GB:
Fallout New Vegas for PS3: 16 hours played so far: 3/5ths of map covered
Crashes: 0. Zero crashes for 16 hours of gameplay. Zilch, none, nada. Not exaggerating either.
Glitches/Bugs: 1 that I can count. A bark Scorpion flies into the sky and lands.
Performance: While running outdoors, a slight millisecond hiccup in the frame rate as the scenery loads. Walking, the loading has time to catch up without a hiccup.
Graphics: 7/10. They're starting to look better as I progress. Some objects/scenery look great as in Fallout 3, some look flat and choppy. The enemies look good.
Sound: 7/10. Overall good. I usually turn the music off to experience the game as though I was actually in it, where there wouldn't be music playing as I was getting attacked. Sound FX are good.
Challenge: 7/10. Once I up the difficulty, I'm sure it will get tougher.
Interface: Aside from the complex ammo system, most of this is intuitive, especially if you're familiar with FO3. Leveling up is always fun. Nice stats and tons of perks, many returning from the previous game as well.
Weapons: 9/10. Some really unique and powerful weapons. There's a "Bumper Sword" in the game to own, that looks a bit like the one Cloud carries in FFVII. Very powerful.
Apparel: 9/10. Few games let you wear so many different outfits and combinations, each with something unique. The classic Wasteland Wanderer outfit give +1 to ENDURANCE and +1 to AGILITY, so I wear it most often and avoid having to spend two extra Special Points right there.
Save System: At level 12 so far, the files save size is about 4 MB. Lower than FO3's at that point I'd say.

This game started off kind of bland at GoodSprings, but once I got past the Primm Roller Coaster Mission, things really started to pick up. Some enemy monsters are brutal and vicious, including the Carazor Wasps, DeathClaws and Giant Radscorpion, even the Golden Geckos and Nightstalker dogs are tough to the point you'll die quickly if you're not smart, even on Very Easy. For the Giant Radscorpion, run backwards in a circle and he'll miss his stinger as you try to break down his thick armor. Nice to see familiar monsters return, with all the new ones.

The missions are fun, characters more interesting, stories good, I'm not bored, nor was I by Fallout 3. This game is definitely living up to the deep, epic experience of Fallout 3. I'm impressed with the PS3 version so far. Here's hoping it maintains this level of quality till the ending. Can't say how the PC or 360 versions are, but the PS3 is running great so far.

Overall Rating of FNV so far on the PS3: 9/10. Impressed, and there's a ton left to explore and find at only 16 hours in. :fallout: Thumbs up Obsidian, cool game.

-------------------
PS3: Fallout 3
I have Fallout 3 on the PS3 (not the game of the year edition), and that game rarely crashed and the biggest glitch is during VATS, where it sometimes 'locks' when zoomed, but can easily be broken out of by zooming fully in and out one more time. Crashes when they occur once every 10 hours or so, usually freeze the screen for 40 to 50 seconds, after which gameplay resumes, as though you paused the screen. It's rare. Biggest problem is the Save File size, which gets over 12 MB+ at level 20. From what others have said, if I was getting the GOTY edition, I'd load one DLC per game and maybe avoid Broken Steel's level 30 cap as long as possible.

360: Fallout 3 GOTY
The 360 FO3 GOTY edition ran well, but crashed and had strange jutting objects from the sky and ground occur. Sling shotting enemies too. Disappearing scenery. Traded in after 360 red ringed 4th and final time I'd tolerate it. Got a PS3 Slim.

I had a weird issue where my save files would not appear when I hit the save option, had to reboot. Other than that, nothing.
Keep in mind though once our saves are 10mb~ it will be a massive lagfest like fo3 was.

Less than 4 hours in, have completely froze 3 times, every 30-40 seconds or so of running around outside i freeze for about half a sec to a second, wonder if it's going to totally freeze, then it goes back to normal.

Had very few problems with F3 GOTY, only crashed once in about 50 hours.

It's just rendering the environment.

So it has to freeze the screen for a second?

I don't really care why it's doing it, it shouldnt be happening

Not much of an annoyance for me, been occouring since oblivion. The pause is so you don't get too far ahead causing enemies to pop up on you.
Remember, the PS3 is running on like 256mb of ram.

FNV goes to level 30, so 10 MB is likely I'm guessing. In FO3 without any DLC, I have 12 MB saves, and it runs well, but that's at level 20, not 30 as in Broken Steel, which probably is the issue in file size I'd guess.

Yes, the scenery is "loading", but it doesn't have a message say "loading" as Oblivion showed on the 360, which couldn't be turned off in that game. Fallout 3 doesn't hiccup quite as much as FNV, which is every 15 seconds of constant running. If gamers take it slower and it won't hiccup load.

I have been playing all day today (Woohoo twas off from work today) and I have had at least 6 crashes. One of them sent me right back to the main menu of the ps3.

So I can avoid it, at what part of the map were you at, what level? I'm hoping the game will remain crash free for 40 hours in.

Level 8. I didn't go back to the location and I didn't discover it, but it's right passed the Cazadors if you're heading south from Goodsprings. Less than a mile passed the Makeshift Great Khan Camp. It was a town full of Vipers. On the east of that town is Vault 19. I was in the middle of a battle and it froze.

Biggest problem is if i get anywhere near Novac my system completly locks up and i have to hold the reset button, it happens no matter how i try to get there it'll freeze at roughly the same distance away from the town.

My only crash happened in Primm but otherwise my 8 hour game is doing good. There are a few bugs that I came across like a Wasteland Survival Guide dipping above and below the ground, Vulpes Whatshisname didn't spawn with a hat after I reloaded, and a Giant Radscorpion stopped attacking me for no reason and just stood there while I was giving him a blood transfusion of lead.

I am about 20 hours in. I have experienced frame rate drops constantly while walking along, people walking in the sky, critters stuck in the ground/floor, gotten hung up in doors/rock piles, 2 screen freezes, and 1 crash back to the ps3 menu.
Oh and buildings and signs appearing right before your eyes out of nowhere.
I am ready for that patch as soon as possible guys!!!

I had 1 freeze up when trying to load a save game in about 12-15 hours of gameplay. I'm on the launch model 60GB (drive has been since upgraded to 240GB) PS3. Has a couple of glitches where critters and a jackal raider were clipping into the ground and I couldn't get to their bodies...

UPDATE: FNV on PS3.

Outdoors, the PS3 has not crashed at all playing FNV. But finally, when I reached Freeside, I experienced the crashes at the moment I press X to enter a building or new location. The screen freezes and doesn't recover. It's rare, say once every 20 entries, so to avoid losing current progress, I save right in front of each entrance/exit with quick 1 hour wait autosave. Once it's saved, I enter. I think the game can't handle all of the new data pouring in and crashes immediately on pressing X to enter/exit.

Locations I remember it crashing: Entering Followers Fort in Freeside, Entering a Casino in the Strip, entering the Brotherhood abandoned cistern. Beyond that, can't remember too many other crashes. I'd say most happen in the Strip area. So far about six crashes now at level 18, 24 hours of play.

If I stay strictly outdoors, the game remains crash-free, no matter how long it's played on PS3 at level 18 so far, with Lily as a companion, or the bot dog.

[BUMP THREAD]

Update 2: After 60 hours into FNV on PS3, once I hit the Strip and Freeside, the crashes became evident. I'm at one point after finishing a certain mission with a certain chip, that turns the screen black and crashes every time I try to re enter the Strip to get back to Lucky 38, which is now impossible with my current progress. I'm going to try to complete some more missions before trying again, but to give you an idea: tried 7 times, crashed 7 times, locking the game up with a black screen after pressing X to enter the Strip at the gate.

Otherwise, despite some severe slowdown in rare sections of the main Vegas city interiors, FNV is a fun game, although it still hasn't topped Fallout 3 for me. Just wish they ironed out the crashes in the city before releasing the game. Patches are a way of saying: We didn't have time to fix this, so try this. Better than nothing however.

FNV: Rating with crashes in the city areas: 8/10. Still a great game and very welcome continuation of the Fallout series. Great job overall IMO.

I'm guessing you have a high end PC with the strongest levels of hardware installed. 60 hours and only 3 crashes is very nice, and I imagine you've already entered the Strip areas with that amount of time invested. Good to hear, thanks.

I have played the game for about 30 hours now on my PS3, and I've had 1 crash only, and the graphical glitches have been few and minor. It runs pretty smooth overall. I'm actually very impressed by this game, and I think that Bethesda should definitely involve Obsidian, when they make Fallout 4.

I'm about level 16-17, working on the string of Brotherhood Of Steele missions, and have only had 1 crash so far, in about, I'd say, 40-50+ hours of play. Been avoiding the patch (1.01) because I've heard it made about 75% of the users crash (loading freezes from main menu to game), which also make all of their save data from before the patch worthless/useless. Starting a new game works fine with 1.01, though. Have Boone as a follower (would have Cass but I let the black guy in Silver Rush [Freeside Energy Weapons Store] vaporize her). 1 question: Can you get "The King's" robo dog, and if so, how?
