Ps3 footage weird?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:54 am

I was happy to finally find out that there was ps3 footage, until I actually watched it. The colors look bland and just weird to me. I watched it in HD so the quality wasnt the problem, I've seen better footage on the 360 and honestly the ps3 video looked the worst out of all of them. If this is actually how the ps3 verison looks like, I'm sorry to say I'm not going to be picking this up.

I've watched it also and can honestly say, they do look weird. Colors aren't as vibrant, but not to the point where the realism is gone. Multiplayer videos on the 360 look sharper. There not as "awesome" but are better than this so called PS3 footage. Crytek recently said that both consoles are exactly identical in performance and visual quality so maybe this video was compressed or something which as a result, lowered the video quality. You'll never know.

but idk if that explains the invisibility. on the xbox the gun kind of looked like water but on the ps3 version you can see the outline of it and doesnt have the "water look".

I rather play on a big screen TV than a small monitor. And I rather not spend 600 bucks on a card. =)

Cards are cheaper now. You can probably get a GTX-480 for $350.

Is there something wrong with how a person thinks or cares? Reason why most console players won't buy for PC is people don't have the money upgrading a PC in order to run Crysis 2 on max. You can't blame them really for not having the money and I'm not saying that you are. Besides, who wouldn't want to see some pretty visuals.

You really don't need that expensive a computer to play PC titles like Crysis 1. $600 or $700 PC would probably be able to play it on high. My $800 laptop plays it on medium quite well. And all you really get on high is a bunch of overdone bloom and HDR.

because some of us don't want to spend large amounts of money constantly upgrading a PC. You are obviously saying this from the perspective of a PC or Xbox player so for you the graphics quality of this game is established. If you had any reason to think that the quality of your version of the game was going to be subpar then Im sure you would complain too so don't talk from some position of self righteousness on an issue you dont have to worry about. Also no we should not be thankful they are making it for consoles, Crytek should be thankful we're considering buying their product because the reason they are making it for consoles is they want to make more money, they even said so in an interview

Hmm but that is the point: If you want to have the best atm possible GFX you have to spend lots of € or $, if you dont wan't to spend that much money you have too be satisfied with what you get.
You cant get even near the high settings on a PC (for Crysis 2) on your consol.
And to be honest i really do think it looks very well on PS3. Even more if you recognize the tech behind. Means all is real time, this for instance has as a result, that unlike in Killzone 3 where the lights are precomputed and nearly all cutscenes are Rendered(40GB of it!!!) the whole Hardware has to work harder, so you have to live with cutbacks on other ends, like the drawdistance, which results in popups.
But nevertheless what i saw till now from consolgames it has one of the best gfx, others are great for art or style but non can match in realism, non

Im not being negative towards ps3 but in my opinion ps3 always lacks contrast vs. the 360. Colors seem to pop better even when sites have comparisons with the two systems

I do agree the colours look dull but thats the saturation of the video itself (look at the begining crytek logo) and as far as the invisibility, thats actually how it looks on PC,ud see the cyberfill segments

so xbox's invisability's color is going to be different than both pc and ps3? or did they just have it that way for the beta?

I cant say much from the colour because the video quality itself is questionable, but as for the invisibility itself, thats basicly how it looks on PC because iv seen alota PC footage from the leaked betta and it has those segments.
Also the reason its that way is because of how the nanosuit works(if you read the nanosuit cloak description),its not an error

I really think that you guys are misjudging the time of day and atmosphere in the trailer. In the road rage trailer the weather was a clear afternoon with a bright sun and it was more toward the beginning of the game with more open areas. The semper fi trailer looks like it was taken after a rain storm so the lighting effects looks like less sunlight and more like weather after it rains and the sun is just re emerging from the clouds and there are sky scraqers to block out sunlight. If you guys go and watch the gamespot segment where they show the 360 version in the crater fighting aliens for 15 minutes, the colors look washed out and bland too. I just think the 2 trailers portray different time of days and weather effects and that's why you guys think that the ps3 version looks like crap. We should really wait for the demo before making rash judgements.

The technique that i am referring to would be color grading. Dynamic colors on objects at different times of day where lighting impacts objects differently.

I think this boils down to bad video quality. Look at when he is changing weapons. You hardly can make out the icons on the weapon wheel/menu.

There are some bad pop-in's though, that's not a result of the vid quality. When he was sliding down the hill...etc. Could they save PS3 for last because its the worst version? Which developer would admit that one version of there game is better than the other on consoles (not talking about PC)....?

hmm... i dont think you know what i am saying (but i do know what you are saying lol)
here is an xbox beta gamplay video from youtube. jump to 2:32. it will show you what the cloak looks like.

ok now (having the above video paused) look at this video. (this is the latest release video for ps3) jump to 0:58

now compare the two. the xbox invisability looks like water or glass while the ps3 invisability looks somewhat (only a little) like the invisability in crysis 1. you see some purple in the mix and some hexagons.

the ps3 version looks way more complex and the xbox version looks easier to render (only looks, i dont know if its easier to render or not). i like the way the ps3 version looks and i hope thats what we get in the pc version. BUT, is the xbox version going to stay that was (as it was in the open beta) or is it going to have the effect shown in the ps3 footage?

get what i am saying now?

I understood what you are saying CARDBOARDfoxx. The cloak in 360 MP beta looks crystal clear and the one in the PS3 video has a blueish tint. I personally like the way it looks in the 360 MP beta.

The vid quality of the PS3 footage is crappy though. Look at the HUD in the video's you posted.

Here is the point i was making with my last post. This video is from the leaked pc build and for the 1st 6 minutes the color is washed out but when the player gets to an area with strong sunlight the color becomes vivid. I'm sorty for posting a vid from the leaked build but i had to go to thr highest common denominator to prove my point.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAEp8MdGHSs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Crytek just showed a different area of the game on ps3 and this is making everyone think the 360 version looks more vivid when it's really just color grading and time of day effects in action.

well thanks rblaze1988. i see what you are saying too. i am glad this is what happened. but i didnt watch the video because i didnt want to spoil it for myself but i completely trust you on this one. thanks again.

and roberticopsn yeah i know the quality is quite terrible but thats the only release vid there is for the ps3.

still awesome that the cloak is dynamically changed because of the environment.
