PS3 freezing Camp Forlorn Hope and Nelson

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2010 7:11 am

I already discussed this in another thread but thought it might help the devs if I posted it here. I love pretty myuch all things Fallout and understand that games of this complexity just have issues that you have to deal with. The hours of emjoyment I have received far outweigh the frustrations of certain issues that arise.

I am having serious issues around the ABoS bunker. I am having repeatable lockups around Camp Forlorn Hope and Nelson specifically. It seems to get worse the further along your character is in certain quests and I can only get into Camp forlorn once and then thats it. Nelson seems completely unapproachable. I having been experimenting with workarounds as it blocked me from completing Still In the Dark because of one the locations to get the scouting report is in the freeze zone. I created a new character from scratch just for dead money and went there almost immediately after the build. I then finished said DLC and started out fresh in the wasteland to see what issues might crop up. One of the bugs has to do with Legionares over spawning in Camp forlorn as I once fast travelled there and saved immediately. If I was quick enough I could kill all the Legion and make Camp F playable but Nelson seemed hopeless on that save so I had to revert several hours back to just leaving the Sierra Madre.

I am now in the process of folling the quest in a more linear fashion the way the makers intended and Still in the Dark is past the point where there is a problem but I still found Nelson to be a major problem and have yet to try Camp F again. I am going to try a couple of things; one is to wait for a quest that requires me to go to Camp F in the future and two, clearing out Nelson from extreme distances in the hopes of bypassing the issues. For now I am trying to get as much done as possible before I attempt this again. One major problem I for-see is with Raul and his dialog triggers with Cpl Sterling so I am making sure to have Raul with me at Camp McCarran before I talk with him as he moves to Camp Forlorn Hope once you do the ranger/NCR quest "I Don't Hurt Anymore". I also wait till Cpl Sterling moves to Camp F before "acquiring" La Longue Carabine so if the lockups perist I am going to be so sad...

I have 3 other character builds that had none of these issues but I have yet to play Dead money with them. They are more complete but less desirable builds for me. I wanted a fresh one just to see what might crop up and to prepare for for future DLC's. I have all current patches and PS3 software is current also.

Well for some reason Tabitha moved in to my abandon BoS bunker and Rhonda is stuck at Black Mountain. She stands watch over my bed mumbling about where to go now. Don't know why but its kinda cool. Still no luck on a viable workaround for the freezing at Forlorn Hope. I have one real early post DM save where i got there bug ffree but I don't feel like going back so far again. Maybe later but for now I am just going to do as much as I can exploring and quest wise. Hopefully Forlorn Nelson are the only major ones. Completed Raul's quest choosing Full Maintenance and it does look like they patched it right atleast.

Made sure not to finish Dont hurt Anymore quest so the rangers don't move to Forlorn till I get Boone's dialog triggers done with that Bitter guy at McCarren. It looks like Veronica's final quest isn't triggering right (try again later) as she seems stuck at "What's up" again.

No, I share your frustrations and yes it is hard to be patient for a reply but a little update info would be nice. Like a comprehensive list of what problems are being worked on and for what system.

Update:

Ok I reverted just to when I exited DM after finishing getting everything I wanted (all the gold, BAR's and police pistols ect) I went straight to Camp Forlorn and grabbed the Big Science Book and then proceeded to Nelson. No lock ups and this playthrough is almost completely new. I started DM just after leaving goodsprings using the 28 (now 34) perk glitch. I still am waiting to see if the problem crop back up later on in the playthrough but for now I am keeping hope alive.

Since I never side with the Legion I went ahead and killed all the Legion in Nelson hoping to prevent later spawnings. I realize I am locking myself out of quests later but I want a lock up free map till a proper patch/fix is done. If you are siding with the Legion you can wipe out Forlorn Hope I guess but it seems important to go there right after you leave the Sierra Madre. Old saves where I have been there before seems to keep the glitch from occurring.

Will report more about long term affects in about a week after I get further along.

It seems that us PS3 owners get the inferior version. Soo there is nothing they will do to fix this.

I wouldn't give up all hope yet. They were still patching things on F3 all the way till the GotY edition and F:NV still has three DLC's supposedly still coming. While these glitches are painful others may still find workarounds and sometimes that is all you got. It svcks to lose time because of freezes but all is not lost.

They already said that it is engine problems and that nothing can be done to fix the freezing .

Still no freezing in Camp Forlorn or Nelson the workaround seems stable for now. Still encountering lots of random freezes gotta save constantly. Seems like work right? Still love this franchise enough to muddle through. Finished Raul's quest again with Full maintenance. Veronica's "I could make you care" just started before I am finished with "still in the dark"; going to finish the latter one first. Gannon's dialog triggers seem to be working better on this playthrough. This is my final build for the time being as it is the most complete bug free, post DM build that I have.
