ps3 geck

The PS3 can have any operating system and most of the hardware excels that of the average computer.
including windows.

I find that quite funny.
On topic.
There is a lot of misinformation in this topic.

1) The PS3/Xbox 360 do not have the required hardware. The 360 has only 512MB RAM. The PS3 only has 256MB. Way too little to run a modded game. Fallout 3 modded reaches well over 1.6GB RAM taken on my system.
2) Microsoft and Sony will not allow it.
3) It would cause stability issues with the game, which could make Sony/Microsoft/Bethesda/Obsidian accountable for.
4) It is against EULA to mod games/systems.
5) Use the correct abbreviations. Mb=Megabit.......MB=Megabyte.......Gb=Gigabit.........GB=Gigabyte
There are several other points in there that we should bring up but I do not feel the need to since this will probably be locked soon.

How the heck did this thread get two pages long?

Usually, what will happene whenever these threads pop up is a Mod comes in, says something along the likes of...

"Sony and Microsoft have banned the use of 3rd party programs on their consoles, and this is not up for discussion. Thread Locked."

Either this Thread got active fast... or the Mods are slow on the uptake with this one...

But, yeah, the PS3 and 360 are built purely for playing games and/or DVDs, not for building them- they MIGHT be able to put in a "Lite" version of the GECK, but it would end up being basically a map editor, and not worthy of the name "GECK."

what? a garden of eden creation kit. It would still be a creation kit. However im going to refrain from posting because i believe im borderline trolling in some eyes. Sorry if offence is taken guys, my bad. I know when i have lost.

i understand what everyone is saying. But aren't you being a little closed minded, favouring your machine. I have heard a lot of stupider requests.

They're not. They are going by what the facts and laws are.

Nobody is being closed minded. Nobody is favouring any system.

The facts have been explained.

The PS3 and the Xbox will NOT get a GECK, they CANNOT run the GECK and by extension they will NOT be getting mods.

Not in the slightest. I'm a console user as well as a PC user. I'm also a software engineer and have quite a bit of knowledge and experience on the subject of computing. The technical hurdles are insurmountable without a huge effort on the part of Bethesda to create a GECK Lite for consoles...it would need to be quite a bit different (and probably quite a bit simplified) to make it viable. Bethesda isn't likely to put the large amount of resources that would be required into something like that considering that Sony and MS strictly forbid it.

The reason it's not so difficult to release a GECK for the PC is that they actually use a similar tool in-house to build their own game content. It's not much of a stretch for them to re-package a version of their own tools for use by the modding community.

For the last time, there will never be a modding toolset for anything but the PC.

I think the question posed in the OP has been answered and then some.
