PS3 Lockup

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 3:42 pm

Hello,

When I first started playing Fallout New Vegas on my PS3 I was experiencing system lockup issues very frequently, like every 5-15 minutes. The game was basically unplayable and I was about to give up on it when I tried unplugging my internet cable from the back on my PS3 to see if it helps. It did!! Since I did this I have had zero, none, not one single, lockup for the last 15 hours of play. The game is actually playable now, thank goodness, and its a pretty darn good game. Too early to say if its comparable to FO3, but the longer I play...without constant lockups and frustration...the more I like it.

Just thought I'd pass that along. It may not work for everyone, but if at least one person reads this and it helps then it was worth it. :)

Interesting discovery you made there. I wonder if the same effect could be had by disconnecting a wireless connection. Anyone want to test that out? It could be just that you're getting lucky, but there may be something to this.

I don't think its luck. The game was pretty consistent about locking up on me every 5-10-15 minutes, or at best I'd play for 30 and it would lock up during a loading screen. But since I disconnected the internet cable from my PS3, no problems at all this week, and I've traveled from Novac all the way into New Vegas and back out into the Wasteland, stopping to talk, explore, scavenge, and kill along the way. That's a lot of loading screens, cut scenes, dialog and VATS kills without a lockup. I don't know that I'd contribute it to luck.

Disabling my IC helped to a degree, but I am still locking up each time I enter CFH.

Doesn't sound like you're very far into the game. I hope your trick keeps working as you progress.

I have a wireless connection and I disabled it. It did help me, but only to a degree where it started to give me a false sense of hope, then problems eventually persisted.

I did all the missions to get Contreras on my good side and now everytime I want to buy something from him, it locks up. Every f'n time I try the same thing, lock up then black screen of death. I have stoped playing it until I find out the bugs are gone. Thank God for AC Brotherhood and COD Balck Ops!!

No doubt the bugs persist. I've had to reset a number of times where my companions attack friendlies, and I still have issues with choppy framerate at times, but at least I am able to play and not lock up every step of the way. I have locked up a couple times since my OP, which is annoying, but they are rare. I'm eagerly awaiting the patch. Hopefully it makes this game what its clearly got the potential to be, which is great. Such a shame to see such a brilliant game completely overshadowed by so many issues.
