PS3 - Network Performance [Update 02/06]

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 5:31 am

06/03/2011 5pm MST

Played today and most initial games (first game when I joined a lobby) had no sound. Also, I waited ten minutes to find a match once and five minutes another time.

It is getting better, but it still says I have a strict NAT when my NAT is open =/

Plus ever few games that I join in progress will have only background sounds, no gunshots, or suit voices, etc. It is impossible to play in those games so I have to leave.

My experience with my friends (anywhere from a 2 to 6 man party) has been less than ideal, but I have to admit it's getting better. Normally, with 3-4 of us playing at once, 2 will never be able start the match. In that case, they know to drop out of the squad, then join again because the game seemingly saves their "slots" in the match. Once they've re-joined.. it seems fine. This has gotten way better since two weeks ago, and more so since the 2nd. However, it does still occur, along with some other issues (Sometimes, not every friend can hear each other over the mic. Normally I'm the squad leader and when this happens I can hear all of them and they all can hear me, but lol, they sometimes can't hear each other. While this chat bug is in progress, usually the one suffering from it can't see all of the names on the Scorecard, and sometimes no names for other team-mates running around, or names in killcams. Another MP bug that really gets to us, happens when we finally get to Downed Bird or a map we really like... and the starting match counter gets to 1, but never starts the match (it never ticks past 1). Sometimes during this situation, if you let it sit there for about 2-3mins, it'll start... but more than likely we have to back out and start the line-up (Skyline or Terminal) from scratch. Also, a good indication that a friend will be left on the "Match is Starting Screen" while we're all Loading (Spinning Map Screen), is when they're not allowed to vote on a map in the Matchmaking Lobby.)

(06/05/11)
Q: Did it take longer than 30s to find a game? (please try and be accurate with this)
A: No, I would have to say that every game tonight was found in under 30secs. (It was impressive that we could join as a group and still find a game that wasn't Skyline or Terminal to play in. Tonight was a first for that.)

Q: Are you on wired or wireless?
A: Wired. (As a matter of fact, I play in a College Dorm, through my gaming router. While I play, I even unplug my Ethernet cable from my pc, in hopes to increase bandwith.)

Q: Have you specified your correct locale (region) in your console settings?*
A: It's been years since I first registered for PSN, but when I checked Account Managment I saw United States, so my assumption is that it's US.

Q: What was the ratio of red bar to orange bar to green bar players in the match?
A: On Average: 2 Red:10Yellow to Green

Q: What colour is your ping connection?
A: 3 bars Green on Average (Only saw one match tonight when my whole team of 6 had solid 2bar yellows across the board. That was the worst I've seen my lag in a long time. Haven't seen red in a while.)

Q: Did you get into the first game without any issues?
A: Now that you mention it, Yes, Ironically... I think we did. I think all 4 of us got in our first Match perfectly fine... then on the 2nd and 3rd, it started to hiccup.

Lastly, this may not be the place for it... but it would really be nice if we had some form of Map Shuffle. That way every time a group of friends had to back out to pick up someone who was dropped (or like I said earlier when the match starter bugs out at 1 sec), we wouldn't have to play on Skyline or Terminal every time. It would be nice to start playing and see... Lighthouse... or Sanctuary for a change, rather than hoping for all to be well long enough that we actually make it to the level we've been waiting for.

Hope this helps! Thanks for all the work you've put into it thus far... Keep up the great work!

I have questions for you Crytek:

-Did it take longer than you expected to finally fix something so you decided to give up?
-This thread has proved that the connection type is irrelevant and that both wired & wireless players have problems so: does connection type matters in the end or you should fix the netcode instead?
-Some online games have the option to choose the region in which you want to play so why don't you just add it in Crysis 2?
-The ratio of the red bars can change drastically from match to match and in the end the average we provide you won't ever matter because for most players there is no average at all in Crysis 2, so why don't you do estimates and waste your time instead than mine?
-Do you have now a in-game system that grants me always the same ping color? Clearly not!
-Did you publish this game with no game-braking issues?

Seems to be a massive improvement ~ a lot of games I played this weekend were mostly green bars.
Only time I got a yellow bar - was when my little boy and his mum were both hammering the internet connection, and the game still played well.

- Did it take longer than 30s to find a game? (please try and be accurate with this)

No. Have not had to wait that long for a game as of yet.

- Are you on wired or wireless?

wireless

- Have you specified your correct locale (region) in your console settings?*

yes

- What was the ratio of red bar to orange bar to green bar players in the match?

from what i've seen, not many people have been on 1 bar connections, there are alot of 2 bars and 3 bars. but i have yet to see anyone on a 4bar that isn't host. but even with most people on 2/3 bars, i haven't seen any major lag like i have in other P2P games.

- What colour is your ping connection?

green, think i might've had a yellow once maybe twice whilst playing during off-peak times, but host successfully migrated during these games changing it back to green.

- Did you get into the first game without any issues?

haven't had any issues getting into a game so far.

So, finally managed to download & install new maps. Then sat in the lobby waiting fruitlessly for other players to join the session.
Managed one game on a new map over the course of an evening. Decided to give up and go back to the old maps. Pretty much every game I joined
I had a single orange/yellow bar connection. Spent an hour or so unloading magazines and clips into peeps only to have them turn around and bich slap me for the kill. Gave up. Booted up Reach: Big Team Battle - 16 players maxed out on 5 green bars. Ho-hum!

Is nobody playing any more, or has the network tweaking broken something? The last two days it has been very difficult to find a match. I waited 30 minutes once and 10 plus on a number of other occasions. I never had to wait that long before this week.

I'm still having issues to find any sessions before i give up, it can go from 10-20 minutes just searching. Although the netcode/playlist has been fixed to a certain degree where most of the users/players got green bars - but finding a session itself is a bich and I quit the game when I give up on waiting.

And I consider myself a very patient/tolerant person, and so with that in mind you should really improve on the matchmaking (along with other issues mentioned in this thread).

This is a great game but if you guys are happy with the state its in. More power too you and good luck .

There seems to be a delay getting games - since I downloaded the DLC - is it just coincidence?

I have had MANY problems getting into games. both with or without my squad. My NAT is open and I have my PS3 in my DMZ. I downloaded/purchassed the map pack a week ago and can't even get a game to load with the new maps. seems crash site is the only mode that seems to load quickly. other game modes I literally will be there indefinately and I always get frustrated and back out. I have a wired connection and I have no networking problems. this only happens when playing crysis.

I'm getting a feeling that this update has done wonders for people with a good connection who were getting a bad experience. However, work still needs to be done for people with mediocre connection.

Did it take longer than 30s to find a game? (please try and be accurate with this):
Between 30 seconds and a minute
- Are you on wired or wireless?
Wired
- Have you specified your correct locale (region) in your console settings?*
Yes, (Argentina)
- What was the ratio of red bar to orange bar to green bar players in the match?
Host (full bars), 2 with 3 bars and rest with 1 bar
- What colour is your ping connection?
I always get a 1 bar conecction in Crysis Multiplayer, I have a nat type 1
- Did you get into the first game without any issues?
Yes

P.S.: make matchmaking multiplayer by REGION, I'm fed up of being put on matches with people across the world (Poland, Switzerland!!), I want to play with people near me: Uruguay, Brazil, etc. IF you separate matches by region, people will get better connections. By the way, with other games I have NO issues with online connections: COD (3 to 4 bars ALWAYS). PLEASE FIX THIS, I love the game and I sincerely think that if you get the multiplayer experience right this game would be the best in its category. Everything is great: ideas, weapons, modules; but you blew it in the most important thing: online playing.
