(PS3) Oblivion problem.....

Post » Thu Jul 21, 2011 7:59 pm

I have oblivion for the ps3...I have noticed that when I slowly pan the screen up or down I get these clear horizontal lines...looks almost like thin slices of glass... I thought it was my tv so I tried it on my other tv and the same exact results... I have no idea what the cause is? I deleted all of the files and re tried playing it and the same lines pop up.... I notice them more when my Character is outside during the day?

what can be the cause? I also tried two copies of oblivion game of the year and the greatest hits...

Is this something that has just happened or has it been there the whole time? Is it really noticable, i mean ive clocked a hell of a lot of hours on my PS3 GOTY and never once came across something like this. Have you tried on a friends PS3 and on HD and non HD tv's? 3rd person as well as 1st. Screenshot would be great so i can see what it is you're talking about, if at all possible.

On mine, occasionally (though I've only recently noticed this despite having the game since it came out in 2007) I get black lines, and blocks, obstructing my view. Happens in third person mode, and in first person mode when firing a bow, swinging a swird, blocking, os using magic. Also, for some odd reason, sometimes black blocks cover the wolves. I just reload the game to fix most of these issues though.

Sounds more like a problem with your TV than the game.

Or possibly in the PS3's settings, always worth having a look at both settings. Never experienced anything like this before.

Do any of your other games do it? Or is it just Oblivion?

If they do then check the settings. Maybe you are using standard video input on an HD? or vice-versa?

Try it on another TV if the settings don't fix anything. Is the TV you are using now fairly old? Do you know what the refresh rate is? A picture of the problem would help.

Does the screen ever flicker black, when you are in sneak mode for instance?

It could be a combination of a technical limitation of the PS3 (also present on certain PC configurations), and a TV rendering issue.

Are both TVs in question running Oblivion is progressive scan mode (ie 720p, 1080p)?

I've just been playing on a 1080p Panasonic Viera with a slimline PS3, i panned up and down slowly in 1st and 3rd person, tried different speeds, changed the channel it was playing through, lots of pointless little config changes and nothing. The picture is perfect as intended, I'm stumped mate, not a clue.

I know exactly what your talking about. It happens to me as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it's happening to others as well, they just may not notice it (took me awhile to notice it).

To the best of my knowledge it is some sort of screen tearing issue that is sometimes present on the ps3. Gran Turismo 5 does it every once in awhile too.

I am using the 5th anniversary edition for reference.
