Ps3 resetblack screen-freezing!?!

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 6:29 pm

There is a ton of information about this already but it's all outdated. I am worried my ps3 is screwing up. The reason I'm posting here is because it started with Fallout 3 and after searching on the web I can see this was a problem. I'm wondering if this is still going on with the ps3. Basically my game has been freezing now and then when playing fallout. It's happened a ton tonight like 4 times in 6 hrs, then what really got me scared was the screen went black and the ps3 restarted or at least went back to the xmb, didn't here any beeps so it may not have been a full restart. The thing is almost brand new. It's only happened once before and that was with borderlands. This same thing was happening to people a while back and I'm wondering if it still is. Some people said it wouldn't happen at all then on one night it would go crazy freezing and blacking out.

I only need someone to tell me what the heck is going on. Have you had this problem? I put in a different game for a few minutes and nothing happened. I know that even though this game is single player only, having your ps3 online can cause problems. Is this something I should do, play after I sign out? Thanks for any help. I'm just worried because all the posts I've seen are from 2008 and I'm thinking the problem was patched. That would mean it's my ps3 and then that would mean sending off which would in the end stop me from playing this great game.

Just a note the people at Gamestop said this game was very very glitchy on consoles(ps3) even after all this time.

Yes this game is very buggy. The 400 hours I pumped into this game, i crashed about 60+ times.

To possible solve this problem:

  • Go to GAME DATA UTILITY under the XMB.
  • Find FALLOUT 3 under GAME DATA UTILITY.
  • DELETE IT (do not delete your save file)
  • START the game, and let it INSTALL. Be warned that the game is installing itself to the hard-drive so it will be fairly laggy. Therefore don't get into gun fights or use VATS. (For about an hour)

There is nothing wrong with your ps3. We all have experienced these bugs. If you really want to play the game at its best performance(which isn't that good), start a new game.

Ok thanks. I figured it's something like that. I really hope I don't have to start a new game. That'll svck! The problem is I can't back up data utility for whatever reason. Saved data is fine but back does not give me the option. I've lost so much save data in the past that I back up on cloud and on a flash drive. I was already thinking of trying what you said but I just wanted to get some opinions first. So I guess I'm gonna try that and I'll update you guys.

Edit: I read your post again and now I realize you did not say back up. Will deleting game data delete my dlc?

I think it may, normally a game has two different files(if it has dlc)

1 is the game itself that is installed to the hard-drive
the other being dlcs

I have the GOTY edition so the add-ons are on the disk(so i cant tell you), you may have to re-download the dlcs if you cant find the another file composed of the dlcs.

I solved the problem by signing out while I play, not a single problem after 5 hrs a gameplay
