PC or PS3

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 1:05 am

I'm excited to see the new Fallout is out. I have specifically waited a good week into its release so I could read the boards and see how bad the 'new-release' glitches are. Right on queue - it looks bad.

I will wait to buy this title. But I'm wondering - what's providing users with the best experience - PC or PS3? I can go either way. I've played Oblivion on both and played Fallout3 on PS3.

It seems ps3 will be patched to fix up bugs later than PC, does that seem correct?

I know they're probably never going to be able to fix everything about the software, there will always be people complaining. But I'd like to see a majority of the major bugs fixed before I buy. I've got several friends in the same boat, waiting for a patch or two before taking the plunge.

The plunge is the time-svckage for me, I'm not worried about the cost of the software but I have to be careful about my available time. I have a feeling once I get this game housework will take a back-seat for awhile.

Please don't start threads that will turn into console wars. I'm playing on a 80GB Motor Storm PS3 release and I've only had minor issues. Other people with PS3's have had ton of issues. PC's have had the failed save bugs, XBoxes have had their own bugs.

Every system has had people run it okay, and every system has had it buggy. It all depends on random stuff apparently. Please don't start threads that will turn into console wars though.

PC, because of mods. No contest, even if I did own a console (I don't).

I play on the pc and have only had 1 crash occur, despite playing it for about 30 hours. I think there's a patch for the auto save thing now too...

But it does run through Steam on the PC meaning you have to have an internet connection to install it...and if you play it offline you don't unlock any achievements either which is a bit of a bummer.

Oh, please. I'm not interested in console wars... I was fifteen too once.

I happen to use a PS3, I have an Xbox360 but it's been in a closet since soon after its release. I have a PC with up-to-date hardware. I get to test a lot of hardware I don't technically own unless the manufacturer wants it back.

The PC/Console question is a personal but legit concern. Do you like leaning back on the couch, sacrificing some res or sitting forward at a desk, using a mouse to target? I don't see it as anything to go to war over and I can ignore the kids who do.

Relight -
I hear you on the mods, it's long been one of the main attractions to PC gaming. Since Fallout is single player I'm seriously considering it. I have a nice 5.1 audio system I like using in the man-cave with the console - it gets me out of the sun every once in awhile.

I'm just curious what people who have played the game think, that's all.

Agreed. If you have the choice for either, why buy a fully customisable game on a platform that can't use that part of it, it's like consoles only get half of the game, which doesn't seem fair in a way! I still play Oblivion and Morrowind regularly, they're like different (and much better) games with all the mods I've added to it.

Edit to add: I've had no issues playing on a PC, 1 CTD in 60+ hours of play, and that was due to ALT-TAB when the Pipboy display was up, FO3 didn't cope well with that either.

As a pc gamer id recomend using a console just over all less hassle. Once my rig goes obsolete im going console 100%. Every pc gamer is an assumed game pirate from the companies they buy their games form.

Dont buy into the mod argument, most of them are buggy pieces of crap. Or rehashes that add more things to the game, things that are already in the game just more. Once you start using mods youll be reinstalling your game left and right after the mods break something in your game. Moding now if you look at fallout 3 and obliv. its lost most of the creativity it used to have, now its just a place for amateur programmers to show off their skills when they make the latest greatest mod sorter installer or the like.

IF you have a PC capable of running NV there's no reason to buy it for console.

Just to say, I've had very few problems playing on PC. Approaching 30 hours, and I've had about 5 crashes, but all within the first 5 hours - several were completely unexplainable, but the rest were all due to a known bug that I read about on these forums, so I could avoid it going forward. Luckily, I use manual saves regularly anyway, so the crashes didn't get to me too badly.

The fact that they've already released the G.E.C.K. and the fact that some great mods are already being made... I'm playing Vanilla first, but I know that I'll have a lot of fun - and add a lot of replay value - with mods, is one of the reasons I love PC gaming, and one of the reasons I love Bethesda as a publisher, for encouraging modding by providing tools for it.

I am playing on my PS3. I also played FO3 and the Broken Steel on console. I love it. I've had some bugs with the PS3 on NV, but nothing that is terribly problematic. I know a patch to fix will come.

The PC solely do to mods and community fixes, if the PC is capable of running it at your desired res/settings. Both are major plus's in my book.

I guess another thing with the PC is I hooked mine up to my 40" TV with a 15' HDMI cable and can lay in my bed with the 360 controller and play like a 360, but with mods. :) (When I decide to mod that is, still vanilla at this point.)

I'd say it depends on what kind of gamer you are.

For me, it's a no-brainer. PC all the way. And mods are the reason. Playing Fallout 3 with Mart's Mutant Mod, FWE and Fellout is a completely different (and superior) gaming experience than playing vanilla Fallout on any platform. Oblivion was the same with mods like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Mart's Monster Mod and tons of massive quest mods that literally added hundreds of hours of play. (On a side note, why didn't Fallout 3 see the sort of quest development that Oblivion got?)

However, these great mods didn't happen overnight and it will probably be months before the really good ones are released. If you are the kind of gamer that will play through it once then move on to another game, then the PS3 may be the best choice for you. But I practically make a hobby out of trying to build the perfect game, checking the new releases on the nexus daily to see what's new ... it's an obsession, but one I enjoy.

PC can do everything a console can Plus more.

So if you have a PC that can run the game, go PC without question

You if you have a PC that can run it better than the PS3 then get it for the PC. If you don't then get it for the PS3. Both get the DLC at the same time and both experience their own set of bugs.

I go the game on day 1.
I play on PS3.
I have experienced only two "lockups" where it freezes and I have to reboot the system to continue playing.
Two events in about 40 hours of playtime .

The questions to ask yourself are:
- Where do you have surround sound?
- Where is the most comfortable gaming experience?
- Where is the closest fridge and bathroom?

I play on my PS3 because I have a larger screen and surround sound.
The PC's monitor may have a better resolution, but honestly, who cares?
When you are in the middle of the game blasting about you won't notice the difference unless you are looking for it.

Buy the game in the platform that you will be abel to play longer and more comfortably.
You won't regret it.
