Nah, it was not a member of /b/, otherwise all of your credit card info would be circulating around the internet. They take things too wayyyyy too far.
I'm not talking about /b/, I'm talking about the hacker activists that call themselves Anonymous. They may have largely started from [censored], but they aren't related to it any more.
Edit: I've got both a 360 and a PS3, for those of you considering going with the 360 just consider this: Not only do you have to pay 50 bucks a year for internet that is free on the PS3, but the 360 has so many more children that you can't even believe it until you see it. Also, I always hear people saying "you have to pay because it's better" but the simple fact of the matter is that I've had XBL for 4 years now due to friends not having a PS3 and I can honestly say I notice no difference in quality between XBL and PSN except for the chance that I'll run into a raging 10 year old.
The point was, And I'm not defending either party, The hackers wanted to run there own programing and such on PS3 much alike you can the Xbox. Making it more appealing to the wider community. Sony However did not like this and came tumbling down on them with the law instead of just rendering the unit useless - reffering to the wii and its updates. By doing this It would've caught the attention of the Anon, A old group that used to hang around the [censored] 99chan and other such forums. As they are not really controlled by any one person, but as a collective. Id say a few gathered amongst this to try and show sony, That by bringing the law into it, was taking it too far as trying to make there system more appealing to the owner of the unit, - even voiding their right to use it - infact was the wrong the wrong strategic move, Of course sony has the right under law to gather the IP's off all who downloaded the illegal jailbreak to the ps3 and charge them with piracy. But these people belived that the unit, hardware and software belongs to them so they can change it if they want to, Thus sony doing this, Annoying the Anonymous few. They retaliated. Hard. They more then likey at the same time did take the details off banks to cover themselves incase the law did catch up, But more then likely they kept to the ideals that its not the people they have a problem with, Its the corporations and conglomerates. So They crashed the network, much alike the Scientology network.
