Ps3 user here.Should i even buy skyrim?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:44 am

Skyrim seems to be an amazing game. However, many ps3 players have stated a ton of problems and glitches with the game. I was thinking of buying it tomorrow...Should i do it or not? I'm afraid that my game "lags" and freezes all the time and then bethesda don't fix it...but it is a game very hard to miss...

Stay. The. Hell. Away. You might not get it but the risk is too great. You still can obtain it, play it and if the game is suffering from those engine problems, cite the product as broken and return it.

My friend has it on PS3 and says he's experienced no problems. Except like, the dragon soul absorb glitch which is fixed.

My knee-jerk response would be "yes, buy it now it's the most awesome game ever", but then again.... maybe you should just wait a while. Come next year, more bugs will be fixed and the price will be lower. And there is no multiplayer scene you're missing out on.

The ps3 problems are different for each player
mine barely has any problems for example

get the game and see how it works for you.

I've been playing it on PS3 for a couple of weeks now and had no problems whatsoever. Even the performance hitches everybody else complained about didn't exist before the patch for me. The only bug I've noticed is that if you try to save it while it's Autosaving, it will freeze sometimes, so I've just been watching for the word "Autosaving" to disappear.

I'd say wait awhile for it, the game is fantastic but it's still buggy enough to ruin the experience from what I've heard. Although I did get Skyrim for PC so I'm not exactly sure HOW bad it is...

Basically this. If you don't have many problems, great. If you do, then shelf the game for a while and wait for it to be patched up.

good point about the Scene... I bought Oblivion for 360 near launch but could not get into itbecause the attributes/leveling up flaws were too great for my powergaming self. I ended up trying it again a few years later and I don't feel like I missed anything by waiting.

OP, just watch the Arrow in the Knee youtubes and maybe try to find something with Lydia so you can put a face to the name and youll be set with your friends. The game is incredible on 360 but I have a feeling the PS3 complaints are real due to the sheer number.

Here's the deal.

The problem with the PS3 is that as your save file increases over time (and it will pretty much ALWAYS increase, not decrease), there will come a point when the engine behind Skyrim will struggle to keep track of all the changes made to the core game file, stored within your save. It will struggle because of the limitations of the PS3 architecture. The problem is with the engine itself and how it deals with retaining and loading changes your character has made to the world, and is not something that can just be hotfixed away.

Bottom line, stay away from the PS3 version if you want to be certain to avoid this problem. Some people are experiencing, some aren't, but it's a gamble at this point.

This confuses me =p my tests are going to be over tomorrow and i will have the time to play videogames again and i was really hyped to buy skyrim as i'm completely tired of all my other games.. It seems some don't have problems at all...If problems only occur after 100 hours of gameplay i will definitely buy it. I'm not seeing myself playing 100 hours with only one character before the game is patched. The question is if the game is going to be "repaired" at all... Also, the only system i have is the ps3...

I think the general consensus on this question concerning TES games, is that modders end up fixing the game, not Bethesda. PS3 can't be modded (legally).

Some PS3 people are having problems and I can't say why because I'm not. There are more patches coming and I'm able to play on my PS3 for hours with no problems and no crashing. The only thing I saw on my PS3 game was the backwards-flying dragon at the Bonestrewn Crest site. It wasn't possible for me to fight him so I went and did other quests. I believe the fix for that is in the patch that should be released this week though. I don't know what system you have but they have tips for PS3 users like making sure your system has plenty of room on the drive and some other things. I wouldn't be scared off from buying it. That's my experience.

If your save file gets too large, the game starts freezing all the time. Started to happen with me when I reached 7.5mb. My ps3 is 2 years old and has little free space in it's HDD.

If is a question of having room on the drive then i wouldn't have troubles at all since i have 200gb of free space...but i guess the main problem i hear is that save files increase in size a lot as you play and then the game starts to lag, and i doubt that has anything to do with the hard drive room...

I can't recommend any games to buy, but I would warn you not to buy RAGE. It is another Bethesda game, they are the publisher, but if you browse their forums, some people are experiencing issues with it too. (Issues seem to be hit or miss with RAGE also)

I would like to buy it, but after my experience with Skyrim, I am waiting for the problems to be fixed or for it to be in the bargain bin.

My game runs fine on my PS3, and I have save files of over 10 MB. And I'm not saying 'fine' as though I've encountered bugs but just don't care. The ONLY thing I've seen was a backwards flying dragon, to which I laughed and then slaughtered. Ultimately though, it is your decision. You very well may encounter bugs. Some may render your game unplayable. You might also play for 327 hours and encounter nothing but one floating mammoth.

I mean i'm not worried about minor bugs like the backwards flying dragon at all. I've encountered plenty of these in Oblivion and Fallout 3 and they didn't bother me. What i'm afraid of is the game becoming a slideshow after 20 hours of gameplay and freezing every 10 minutes  ...
