So PS3 users, when did Skyrim become unplayable for you?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:26 am

For me it was about a 9MB save file.

It became more laggy than any game I had ever imagined. Every 3 seconds, the game freezes than returns a .5 second later.
This basically forced me to make a new character.

It hasn't. I had one instance of not being able to absorb a dragon's soul, and a flying mammoth right afterwards, but it's been fine since. There was also a spinning dragon during the weekend, but that's about it besides some framerate issues after I've played for about 5 straight hours. My save file is now 11MB.

Still runs smooth as silk for me and I'm also around 11mb.

My "Glass Bow of Mother F*@kers" must be keeping the system in check!

Why do some PS3 gamers experience this issue while others do not? It's the same hardware. Shouldn't ALL gamers experience the same exact bugs?

Same here. I've had a couple of lockup/crashes, a couple of situations with lag (some, like having the entire Markath army chasing me - understandable), a couple of quest related issues and the bugs everyone else has been seeing (magic resistance, amazing backwards flying dragons). From time to time lag might get annoying, but not overly so and I can either wait it or just do a quick game restart.

That was a 12MB save file, 90+ hours of play. Lvl 41 when last I played it I think.

Just started a new one, about 12 hours in or so, getting close to the 6MB file. I'm intentionally avoiding the main quests and side quests, only doing the thief, dark brotherhood and daedric quests for now. So far like zero lag at all.

Save size 9898 KB
Play Time" 138.06.16

Still playable for me. I do get lag at times, I just don't rush things and it seems to load alright.

Lots of theories out there. Could be hardware related, perhaps that upgraded HDD's (I've got a rather fast rate 300gb in mine) allow for faster swapping of the virtual memory - so that the game trying to keep track of all the persistent items doesn't slow down the game. Could be just what is in that 12MB file - did the save data get confused along the way, does it result in a lot of persistent scripts, that kind of thing.

Don't get me wrong, the problem is real - plenty of PS3 gamers who have a unplayable mess just by playing the game normally.

There's actually zero frame rate problems for me after patch 1.2.

The problem isn't frame rate at all. Now the game just crashes every 20-30 minutes. It slowly became a huge problem for me. At first the game would crash every hour or so, which was okay because lately I haven't had time to play much longer than that.

As of today I can't do anything. All my "autosave" options are turned off and my save file is only 6.5 mb. It actually makes me miss all the stuttering and frame rate issues that were solved be restarting the system every couple hours.

I know, that's so weird. I've had minor hiccups and lags in my game, barely noticeable. But I've also been proactive about keeping my game files small (6.8 at max here) and saving often, and all the other usual tricks.

My latest trick is: before my Nord figher died, I had him pick up any stuff lying around and equip it onto any dead bodies lying about. Since the bodies eventually respawn, all of this stuff gets reset by the game eventually.

I even turned of notification messages and other things that apparently make it run better, and it STILL lags like a mofo.

And since patch 1.02, it has froze about 12 times in 3 days.

For me, even before the latest patch, it ran perfectly fine on a 13mb save. And it still runs perfectly fine now too.

I would guess it's dependent on how each PS3 user is playing the game, and how the memory is used. I've 150 hours logged in w/ 9.5mb used and after about 3.5 - 4 hours of game play the lag is real noticeable. One gets the feeling I'm living on borrowed time at this point, as it will only get worse. There are some folks only 60 hours in who've used the same amount or more of memory that I have, probably because they've visitied all the cities, and done many of the melee type finale quests.

After around 30 hours and 9mb I got extreme lag. Somehow I managed to play another 50 hours, but I started a new game. Definitely switching over to the far more superior Xbox after christmas and after I platinum the game.

But has anyone considered it has something to do with the disc? Maybe thats why some people have problems and others don't... but I'm not really a tech expert so don't kill me.

The XBOX isn't superior at all...(I own one) they both have their pros and cons.

If you want to switch consoles over one mediocre game, well, be my guest.

Mine's still working fine, but I suppose that's because I distribute my time between my three characters, so I don't really have one big file that can cause problems. Either way, I hope it gets fixed soon.
It's a good game, honestly.

That one COD update only affected the 160GB, so i don't know but it is not just skyrim.

:ONTOPIC: Nothing has been game breaking for me, at all the only problem i have had at all so far has been i cant go into labyrinthian without doing the college of winterhold quests....and that is not a glitch.

Mine is only unplayable if I'm fighting in the open world (or in a city -- so a dragon in Whiterun = death by lag). It started around 10 MB.

I know my brother has freezing issues after getting the latest patch.. real bummer. Even though we play two countries apart, me playing Xbox, he playing PS3 - he seems to be having more problems than I have, after 1.2 :( ... before the patch he had no problems at all.
