PS3 version is CRAPPY

Post » Mon Nov 24, 2008 11:30 pm

Im using a hdmi to dvi cable. It's hooked on a 5 year old 19 LG lcd monitor. 3000 to 1 contrast ratio and 2ms response time. It looks so **** amazing and so sharp. It's so damn good, i cant see ****. Too much detail.

1. It could be your cable. You pay what you get. A good hdmi cable does make a difference.
2. Top brand tv performs way better than walmart brand. There's different types of lcds and plasma out there. It varies all around. In my opinion, the higher contrast ratio and less response time makes a better picture. I already compared my pop's 52inch sony sony bravia xbr to my lcd screen. My looks way sharper but downscaled to 720. The other is 1080p.
3. Could also be your tv settings or your ps3. Maybe its picture modes you can selective.

Just tweak it out and see what happens.

This beats gay ass blacks ops for sure. It's brand new and its buggy. Give it time. The Internet connection annoys me and hosting needs some work but hey that was modern warfare 2 too.

Im having fun and this game is challenging. Its hard and takes skill. Love this tactical approach. Not run and gun cod bs and spawns bs.

Every seasoned PS3 player will tell you that RGB range should be put to limited and superwhite off. Those features are mainly for Blu-Ray AND your tv MUST support them otherwise they distort the image

Mine looks pretty good...nothing spectacular that makes the graphics any better than other ps3 MP's but i think the graphics are just fine. The campaign graphics seem better. What i like about the game so far is the nanosuit toggling, stealth, armor, nanovision, and the scout type thing where you can anolyze surroundings, tag enemies etc. The enemy AI is tough on the hardest difficulty but im not sure about others cuz i just put it on hard for the trophies involved.

Back to graphics, i would say COD is more crisp but other than that i dont see this game being any better or worse than other fps mp's.

I set my TV sharpness from "50" to "70"..and now Crysis looks sharper and better.
On Ps3 set RGB on Full and on the TV the HDMI-Black level on "low".Than raise the picture with the brightness to your own liking. The best location in Crysis 2 to calibrate your TV is a level with high details..rocks or details..you will see it looks so much better on the ps3.The XBOX has a better calibration out of the box.

To fix the ps3 blur just switch the ps3 settings from 1080p to 720p,the blur is due to the up scaling they did on the ps3 version. The 360 runs the game on 720p which makes it look the way it does,i have a friend who has crysis2 on both 360 and ps3 and when we made this change to 720 all was fixed the blur was gone and it looked great :).

-there is no AI in this game. only challenge in single player on supersoldier is when I forgot to turn on invisibility and opponent sees me from... other END of the map. And he is so super duper powerful that he kills me with one burst. er... wtf?

-there is no ragdoll. Bodies are falling unnaturally, they fall into stairs, they disappear, they do some grotesque poses. they are unnaturall. and you can not move bodies with anything. you can blow granade, shoot, kick and bodies are left where they fell. they don't interact with enviroment. fail.

-sound of melee sometimes lags, sometimes there isn't sound at all.

-scripts doesn't work, soldiers just stand in one place... in first camp there are maybe 4 soldiers that are MOVING. They don't even react to blown up vehicles, barrels, thrown objects... so what's the point of doing that? In that camp one of the guards was throwing granades for 5 minutes (I checked on my watch) to last spot he saw me. errrr.... wtf?

-why there is no option to disable suit talks?! If I will hear one more time CLOAK ENGAGED I'm gonna get frenzy. person who designed it should burst into flames. It's the most annoying thing ever. CLOAK ENGAGED, CLOAK ENGAGED, CLOAK ENGAGED :| for christ sake, please turn it off!!!!!

-C2 has the most unbalanced multiplayer ever. whats the point of melee kills if you have to punch someone 5 times? :| come on! and even in multi... CLOAK ENGAGED :|

-why you had to put "press x to start game" in every cutscene... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN? sheeesh.

at this point I'm disappointed in this game. It could be big but it's not. Fix those things please.
over and out.

After playing crysis one on a custom high end pc my expactions were high when i heard crysis 2 is coming out on ps3. After playing messing with settings on my tv wich i have NEVER done before and lowering my ps3 output to 720p all i have to say is i am ASHAMED IN crytek. This game is by far the BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT i have ever had. Everyone knows the ps3 has some serious power under the hood and i don't see it. Most maps are poorly built. The ONLY game that really uses the power of the ps3 is Killzone in my opion. Crysis should have stomped out killzone. After playing crysis for a year on a high end pc i am ASHAMED to call crysis 2 a crysis game. Crysis 2 doesn't come NEARRRR what i had my crysis one doing. I hope they come out with some serious patches. You should be ASHAMED crytek. I cant believe how disappointment i am. I will probly go back to playing call of duty 4. Not to mention i convinced 12 people o go out and buy it. Crytek realllllyyyyyyyyyyyy let me down.

Taken from AVS Forums...this is what you should use for setting up your PS3 Video Settings

Under Settings >>> Video Settings >>> BD/DVD Video Output Format (HDMI), what are RGB, Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr and Auto for?

In most cases the correct setting is 'Auto'. In Auto mode the display will indicate it capabilities in the initial HDMI data exchange and the PS3 will select the correct colorspace.

RGB: This is the colorspace typically used for computer generated graphics (e.g., as used by PCs and PC monitors). This is the colorspace also used in the PS3’s XMB interface and for video games, because they are encoded in sRGB. Selecting RGB will force this output mode for all video (including BD/DVD playback) output via HDMI from the PS3.

Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr: Another colorspace typically used for video recordings (e.g., BDs and DVDs) and video displays. If your HD display supports it, this is the desired colorspace when watching DVD or Blu-rays Discs. It is also recommended for playing home HD video recorded in AVCHD format, as used with many consumer HD camcorders. Selecting Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr will force this mode for all BD/DVD video output from the PS3.

Auto: Just like it sounds, it automatically selects between RGB or Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr colorspaces depending on the capabilities of the connected video display. Selecting “Auto” will normally provide the correct selection of RGB vs. Y Pb/Cb Pr//Cr when most HDMI equipped HDTV displays are attached to the PS3.
Note that the XMB and Games are always output in RGB format while BD/DVD playback is user selectable for output in RGB or Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr format.

I notice weird things happening with colors when selecting Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr or Auto. What should I do?

Try forcing the PS3 to output the video in RGB format (rather than Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr) to see if this eliminates the problems. Your display may not accept, or may have trouble with Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr format input.

So then under Settings >>> Display Settings, should I have RGB set to “Full” or “Limited”?

If your HDTV is calibrated (i.e., adjusted) for use as a video display (rather an a computer display) then “limited” is the correct setting. Most TVs can experience “black crush” when “Full” is selected because the colorspace is being re-mapped beyond what the TV is expecting. Start with it set at “Limited” and calibrate your TV accordingly (see the section below on Display Calibration).

What about Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White? “On” or “Off"?

Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-white is used to pass Blacker-than-Black (BTB) and Peak Whiter-than-White (WTW) levels during video playback. Setting this to “On” should benefit your display as long as your TV accepts Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr input over HDMI. Again, try using a test pattern DVD/BD to calibrate your display after this is turned on (see the section below on Display Calibration). Note that some HDTVs will accept and display BTB and WTW while other HDTV’s will not display these ‘out of bounds’ video levels. Commercial BD discs (except test discs) should not be using BTB and WTW video levels and an ideally calibrated HDTV should correctly display all intended video information even it does not support BTB and WTW levels. However, support for BTB and WTW can be useful when using BD test discs for calibrating a HDTV display.

Not all displays are alike, so use common sense!

And if your TV is native 1080p as mine is leave it set at that, not at 720p. Lowering it down to 720p will not make the game look any better, trust me I've tried. Just let your PS3 and TV make the decision to output to its best ability.

owned lol...

Well, all I got to say is I know a lot of people that love this game and how could you not haha. You should have gotten the pc version if you were looking for power. This is they're first console game and its pretty amazing how it turned out. Great single player and a nice multiplayer that will be played for a really long time! Sure there are bugs and the graphics aren't the best but its still pretty darn good! Its fun is what matters after all. If graphics is what your looking for why don't you just play something on your PC because as a fan of a PS3 I'm glad this game came out and I'm pretty sure a lot of people are. So quit whining and learn to appreciate what took a long time to make.

why would I do that? The lens of truth comparison had rgb on full and super white ON to get those screenshots, so why would I turn mine off? All my other ps3 games look amazing and fine. just this one looks crappy

Using RGB Full on a tv that is decoding the color space properly already will result in some pretty bad issues with your overall brightness and will completely crush anything close to black. The setting is for monitors that default to a PC style color space. If you have Killzone 2 or 3, go to the brightness settings, and if you can't make the logo visable until the very highest setting, or at all without changing your tv's settings, you know that you're incorrectly using RGB Full. RGB limited, does not in any way mean you are seeing less color.

like JaNaaasty said, this is a very good game, it has good graphics, good gameplay, and a solid multiplayer offering. It has some frame rate issues and and a few bugs, but it still is very fun to play. We can't expect every multiplatform game to look as good as Killzone 3, Uncharted 2, or God of War 3. This is the best looking multiplatform game out there, enjoy!

Here is a (not yet complete) framerate anolysis from lens of truth. Of course, like I've been trying to tell people (and being calling a troll for trying to warn them) PS3 framerate svcks, always 4-6 framerate behind the xbox version.

During some action sequence (and it's only the beginning of the game) it get dip down to 20 frames per sec. In later part of the game, when the engine is even more taxed it probably goes down a lot.

http://www.lensoftruth.com/anolysis/feature-crysis-2-frame-rate-anolysis/

A full anolysis is yet to come.
