Depends on how much you have to spend and how big you want to go. Also do you a SSD or traditional?

Personally I'm going to upgrade to a 2TB drive. Probably go with a Seagate. I had a 320gb one in my PS3 (originally a 40gb) and it worked perfectly.

Yep. Both the PS3 and PS4 use normal SATA 2.5" hard drives usually found in laptops. The only thing you need to be careful about is that they are not taller than 9,5mm or they won't fit. But most aren't these days. Thick laptop hard drives were a lot more common just 5ish years ago.

You can upgrade your PS4 hard drive to give yourself some more storage, but sadly it's the only way for now.

Sony hasn't yet added support for external hard drives, unlike its rival Microsoft with the XBOX One.

You can store stuff on an external drive, but only media like pictures and videos that you have captured. Cant play anything off them.

That's a bother.

This console generation is such a shameless money grab I wouldn't be surprised if Sony are hoping people will pick up a 2nd PS 4 for when their gaming library exceeds 500MB.

That really makes no sense because:

1. Swapping out the HDD takes about 10 minutes (not including data transfer), and you dont need any specific brand, it just needs to be of a certain size (the most popular size).

2. While digital games are big installs, everybody has the option to buy physical copies except for the smaller download only games.

3. They are no different from other companies trying to run a business. Though I always found it laughable that the biggest money maker for Sony has nothing to do with electronics.

Yeah, I've got no huge issue with the 500gb drive, but then I avoid digital downloads when possible, and (based on my PS3) I doubt I'll have more than 8-10 games anyway. (I mean, I haven't gotten a PS4 yet, because they haven't had any games I've been interested in. It's only this year that stuff I want is coming out.)

(I also tend to play one or two games at any one time, and then not play them again for a while. So uninstalling a game when I'm "done" with it is no big deal. Needing to have a dozen or more games installed because I'll hop between them on a whim? Nah.)

But that's just me. I know other people do it differently.

And Sony is ok with people doing this? Will this void any warranties you may or may not have on the PS4?
