PS4 Mods Officially Dead

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2016 7:21 am

Mods are not broken the issue was more with stolen mods and nvde mods getting through and sometimes taking days if not weeks to get removed from bethesda.net.

For the most parts mods are working quite nicely much better than I thought they would.

[edit]

Mods do crash but then again the game with no mods will crash. Also PC will crash with and without mods. I have not had the game crash on either the PC or Xbox One both systems running with and without mods at times. For the most part I have been picky about which mods I use and not using that many. On the Xbox One I did help to troubleshoot someone having issues with Beantown Interiors with quite a few mods so I had to use all the mods and see if it was Beantowns or something else since the mod maker does not have an Xbox One to test.

Anyway...

Now probably Bethesda is going to delay Skyrim release date to implement more bug fixes, gameplay improvement, and even content!

...Or maybe not.

Edit: answering this:

more than ever I say: Bethesda, do better games, do not outsource their quality to modders!

Just another rumor, really. Sounds very plausible that Sony wanted one thing, Bethesda wanted another and neither side seemed interested in offering the first compromise.

The only legit thing I could see Sony demanding would be to either keep advlt-oriented mods gone altogether or at least to make them marked so that PlayStation parental controls could filter them properly.

True; but then most Skyrim mods add content rather than fixing bugs.

Thanks. I understand why you do it; IIRC the regular forum skin here has grey text on black, and sometimes people make their text white for added readability...but then it does the opposite for those of us on phones.

The corporate world being what it is, I'm inclined to believe Bethesda's statement. You don't get away with something that can be viewed as blaming another company unless you're ABSOLUTELY certain of who is at fault. So I think it's pretty clear that Sony is at fault here.

Could well be that in June, 2 months ago, what Pete Hines said was true as far as the company knows. Have you not noticed that since then he had been delicately avoiding any kind of certain answers to the question? Things changed. Sony balked, tried to leave Beth holding the bag. Beth decided they'd have none of it.

As far as their staff posting regularly on the forums, they do that no more or less frequently than any other company. Though they are more active in general on the new site.

They are more vocal than most MMO developers.. XD

But yeah, sorry to you Sony fans, but looks like Sony has been the bad-guy since Oblivion(SI).

So PC users get the game free

Xbox users get the Mod Support

PlayStation users get no mod support.

I knew something was up. I feel bad for Sony users. This was a chance for them. 5 years waiting just to get a no.

I am gonna get the PC version for free anyways but i will get both of them anyways at some point. Damn shame PS4 isn't getting it.

Some mods just:

- make Draughr armor lootable

- add ridable horses for followers

- fix some followers issues and add some things that they can do ("followers can relax mod")

- add a little more variety on skeleton enemies and their appearance (mage skeletons and such!)

- add some cool magic spells such as water walking, jumping higher heights, etc.

- add summonable draughr to conjuration spells

- add some more weapons and armor for casters and melee classes

- make capes and backpacks

- make some sort of minor survival features (cold effects, hunger and fatigue, etc.)

- add footprints on the snow

just to name some examples that I found weird were not implemented by Bethesda themselves. Nothing special, you see, but it underlines how, in my opinion, Bethesda left behind some things because they thought "modders will do that for us". I find it irritating. You may disagree on some of my examples, but I'm sure you could suggest even more logic and simple implementations that were just skipped.

These are all non-essential, very minor additions whose absence most people wouldn't notice or care about (except capes, because everyone is obsessed with them for some reason, and certain spells, because they were in past games) - exactly the kind of stuff developers should leave the modders. Bethesda has limited time and money, when it's time to stop they need to stop. If they wanted to add "just this one more thing, it's so great!", we'd still be waiting for Skyrim to release.

I'm more concerned with flawed basic design like [censored] UI, plotholes you can ride a mammoth through or freedom taken a step too far, resulting in a bland, impersonal experience for the (quite large) group of players who want their choices to mean something.

This one is much more complicated than adding some minor details to polish the game! Introducing choices and consequences is a very hard task that should have been taken in consideration from the beginning of the development process! And it would have taken much more time than adding some non essential minor additions.

I think that's the point of Rosveen's reply - the game should have more depth and less flaws in vanilla state. Mods can add, change and fix things, minor and major alike. But these mods won't be available on PS4. If the game had things like mentioned choices & consequences, better UI and others from the beginning, being more enjoyable even in vanilla, lack of mods would be a bit smaller issue for many players.

I agree, but at this point we're discussing the game itself. I personally found Skyrim fantastic as it was even in Vanilla version, even if it lacked "choices & consequences, better UI and others".

Here lies the difference in our point of view: I just expected a little more polishment, a little more detail here and there, you were expecting a much deeper game, that cannot be outsourced to modders (in my opinion).

I was about to buy a Sony camera. Guess what: I'm going Olympus. And no, I wasn't one of the disappointed PS4 players, I'm getting Skyrim SE on PC. But Sony is very annoying with this move.

What is it that you dislike about the UI? It seems very clean and intuitive to me, especially compared to Oblivion's UI. It's been years since I played on PC and used SkyUI, so list some key problems with the UI, please.

It's very ugly, very clumsy, wastes a lot of space, gives zero information without highlighting objects individually. The list of faults is endless. There's absolutely nothing intuitive about it. It's horrendous.

It's basically the very definition of how not to design a UI.

Lol... they really don't give a [censored]. One camera more or less means nothing in their big picture.

So do you guys think Beth will do something special for PS owners to try to drum up sales of Skyrim SE?

I don't know about that,.... but perhaps a small DLC ( free) that add's some of the most popular mods... That of course would ( I think ) have to have the permission of the Mod's authors, but it would be a way to give PS4 players something...make it exclusive, cause I believe the PS4 has to be worked different... but as long as the Xbox 1 can use player chosen mod's...why not. Even a couple "different" DLC packs, that may or may not be able to be used together... PS4 has DLC's...and they can be scrubbed clean.. to make sure that Sony is happy with the content.

anyway..it's an idea, good or bad.

For you it is all of that for me it is the opposite. For me SkyUI is a lot worse of an UI than the vanilla UI but that is for me the only thing that SkyUI has that I like is MCM. All of us of differing needs and wants for an UI. For some people they do not want anything or only limited information. For other they want to have the whole screen filled up with everything including the kitchen sink and then you have most people fall somewhere in between.

I find the Vanilla UI to be one of the best UI's for any game I played. Can it be improved yes but then again everyone has differing needs and wants for an UI. The best way to improve it is by giving players more options to customize it to fit their needs and wants.

Pretty sure UI has never been Bethesda's strong suit and I feel it has only gotten worse with every game.

I highly doubt it. I'd even say the $60 price tag won't change either, as I figure they warrant the updated visuals are enough to charge full price (in which I am conflicted about).
