This is disappointing, as a Ps4 owner, but maybe it is going to give software houses that rely too much on mods the right boost in the direction of making good games that doesn't need mods to fill their holes and to fix their bugs.

Doubt it. Bug ridden games are mostly a pc thing, and there are already plenty of pc buyers alone to make the big dogs happy and continue pressing dev teams with unrealistic deadlines.

What I'd like to know is, what are Sony's realistic reasons against it? Trophies? Just disable them while mods are active. Cheating? These games have no multiplayer. I'm really curious...

Wondering if it related to the same issue they have with crossplay. Perhaps Sony simply doesnt want to share the same pool of player made mods that can also be accessed by microsoft users. I know it sounds dumb but I wouldnt be surprised.

That's a good question, Beth hasn't exactly cared about the Sony side of its fandom. Heck it was said that Skyrim worked like garbage because "The Ps3 is hard to work with!" and then the release Far Harbor which was so broken that they had to re-release a working version. Either way it's bad on both their parts, Bethesda promised mods, while Sony will lose customers to the people who want mods.

Microsoft is already tweating how the Xbox One has mod compatibility! :P

I was so excited for console users, many won't be able to taste the awesomeness of mods now. Even 5 MBs worth of mods can completely transform the game.(there is always PC  )

So now PS4 players are third class citiziens.PC users get mods with skse and others that wouldn't run on the Xbox one,Xbox users get normal mods and Ps4 users get no mods at all.

There was some talk back in June about there being issues with the PS4 formats. The PS4 sound format is a proprietary format, and I guess wav and mp3 files can't be used like on the PC and Xbox?

There are supposedly performance issues when it comes to DDS textures too (which is what PC and Xbox games use), and there was talk about Bethesda creating "optimal texture exporting support in a future update." but I guess it didn't happen.

These things might have something to do with it, but I don't believe they would be the final nail in the coffin so something else probably play a bigger part too. But I really don't know, just speculating here.

Vtastak wrote something interesting over in the mods forum, which I think might be a plausible explanation:

I wouldn't boycott a console because it doesn't have mods..

in all honesty, mods may be nice, but they aren't a make or break deal to me when it comes to buying a console because I don't buy a console for a single game.. when i buy a console, I do it based off of the consoles design aspects (size, how the controller feels) and what exclusives they have i am interested in.. mods are the last thing on my mind when buying a console

svcks for the PS4 players I guess, but i wouldn't really call this as much of a major calamity as alot of gaming sites are currently making it out to be.. as i always have said, to me a game just being a fun and decent product in its own right is more important than moddability, modability is just a bonus

I agree on all of that. I had my PS4 long before I even knew about Fallout 4 and the Skyrim SE, but it still stinks to see what would have been a really nice bonus evaporate.

I saw the rumor at NeoGAF forums. It is too petty but it could be true...

^^^Supposed insider, check out more pettiness towards the end. Not an insider from Beth, that's for sure. Bethesda's response reads aggressive too. Something is going on between these two. :unsure2:

Mods on consoles is not impossible. MS got it. So if Sony fans make their voice heard, I am sure they can get the mods.

pretty much my stance (although i don't currently own a current gen console [been going through my PC and PS2 backlog so im not in a hurry]).. when I do pick a console, it will likely be a PS4 because Sony has given me far better support than Microsoft over the years (as someone who works in IT, let me tell you trying to get any help from microsoft is like talking to a wall) and they have a wider range of exclusives.. mods don't factor in to my decision on what console to get whatsoever

its not really a money thing though (how would that even make sense?).. I think its more of a security issue, since PSN has been brought down a couple times by modded PS3's they likely are trying to be cautious

seriously, if it was a money issue, how the heck would no mods make them more money?

Guy Epic Games said they had to jump through a lot of hoops with SONY to get mods for Unreal Tournament III (3) to work on the PlayStation 3 (PS3) for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of Unreal Tournament III (3).

So for sure ZeniMax Media Inc., Bethesda Softworks, and Bethesda Game Studios jumped through a lot of hoops as well, but SONY is not allowing I guess for whatever reasons.

Security issues can be one of the reasons.

the best one was when the Xbox One and PS4 were first anounced at E3, Microsoft was focusing on all this non-gaming multimedia stuff the Xbox One was going to be capable of and Sony just followed up with "hey, our thing plays games, you like games right?"

I'm not even surprised. I abandoned consoles 4 years ago as its users aren't respected by the producers. If a PC game is left flawed, the community can always fix the bugs themselves thanks to great people like Arthmoor, while console players can count on a few official patches that still don't fix every bug.

Don't boycot the PS4, boycot all consoles.

Sony have had a bad week. From an underwhelming 'pro' reveal, then stumbling their way through it to where we are today. As someone else mentioned further up, FO4 I don't really care if we get mods or not, Skyrim was totally different. Played that game to death on the 360 and have no reason to go back to the vanilla game. Maybe I'm over reacting here, but the same old arrogant Sony seem to be emerging again. From a corp that could do no wrong in their console business to one that is beginning to resemble the shambles we first witnessed from MS during their Xbox One reveal.

PC is more buggy as its so many configurations of hardware and drivers who generate bugs. Also an pc around minimum specifications tend to generate loads of bugs.

However you have in game bugs who don't depend on platform, not only quest bugs or gameworld bugs like the poor orc steward in Skingrad falling trough the bride, but engine bugs.

You also have console only bugs who PS3 owners know well enough :(

Main difference here was probably that MS is underdog in this generation so they bend over hard, spread legs and lifted tail like an good Argonian maid.

They needed mod support, wrong file formats we do an convert during import and put 10 people on it now, file size limit, it will be upgraded to 1TB on patch next week. The manager who complained about file system integrity and hentai don't work here anymore.

Back in the 360 days MS was the stubborn Orc as they was top dog. Now the roles are switched.
