PS4 or Xbox One?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:26 am

First of all, please don't tell me to buy it on PC. My PC is nowhere near powerful enough to run it at the moment. Yes, I am aware that the PC version will be the best, but there's nothing I can do between now and the 10th. PC isn't an option for me. Okay? Okay.

I own both the PS4 and the Xbox One and am torn between which I should buy Fallout 4 on. I was going to go for PS4 because I liked playing with the Dualshock, but then I remembered how Bethesda games on Playstation consoles are known to run terribly. Buuuuut... Wolfenstein The New Order and The Evil Within are both games by Bethesda, and they're fine on the PS4. Well, The Evil Within didn't run great but it was like that on all platforms, not just Playstation. Still, I'm nervous that the PS4 version will turn out to be a mess.

The Xbox One version is almost certainly going to be fine and comes with a digital copy of Fallout 3 which is nice, but if I were to play Fallout 3 I'd probably just get a physical copy and play on my actual 360. I hate going digital when physical is an option.

So whattya think? Should I take a chance with PS4 or play it safe and go for Xbox One?

PC mods will run on XBox One.
Not sure about that on PS4 as that's apparently still being looked at.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. That's a massive bonus for the Xbox One, but I think it's safe to assume that mod support will eventually come to the PS4.

Since you seem to prefer the dualshock, go with PS4. The consoles were very different last gen, and since the Xbox 360 had a huge head start and was far more popular, the PS3 version of a multi-platform release was usually going to be the worst. The PS3 version was the end of the line. Think of it like a game of telephone: things get lost in translation the further down you get. Now, the PS4 is the more popular console, and even then, there isn't that big of a difference between the way that the Xbox One and the PS4 work anymore, so the experience shouldn't be all that different.

Xbox, here. If you dig the dualshock (and PS4 in general), maybe get it for PS4. Myself, I loathe those controllers- this is the biggest reason for me to play on Xbox.

Aside from the copy of F3 for Xbox 1, mods haven't been shored up for PS4 yet, AFAIK. Sure, they're going to happen. But when? Is PSN stable these days?

In your specific case, having both consoles available, I would wait a week or two before deciding.

You know there will be multiple reviews out comparing those two consoles, and one might actually have an edge over the other.

No way to tell without a "playoff", and this is a game you will be enjoying - for years.

Those two games you mentioned are published by Bethesda Softworks, they weren't developed by Bethesda Game Studios. In this concern of yours, you should be looking at the developer, not the publisher. Should probably just wait for a couple of reviews, maybe a gameplay video for each and decide for yourself.

PS4 will get them as well. Though from the looks of it, it won't be until after XB1. The timetable for both is still up in the air. Well after the CK has been released.

As stable as ever, especially on the next-gen consoles.

Per above, if you have both consoles, wait for reviews.

I'm told that Xbox has less memory. I don't know if this is true or not.

One dear to me does not notice a difference when playing on it.

If you can hold off, wait for a comprehensive comparison like Digital Foundry usually puts out.

Personally, I say PS4 all the way. I'm not scared of last gen tech repeating mistakes on current gen.

Regarding the FO3 copy though, if you want that, common sense and being a very frugal gamer these days makes me say free beats physical any day of the week.

Go with the Xbox One. In the past, the playstation has run dreadful with Bethesda games. Also, Xbox Ones will be getting PC mods first which is a bonus.

I'll be getting a Xbox One since even a little backwards compatibility is a must for me.
However because it (and PS4) really hates offline people I won't be playing Fallout 4 till after Thanksgiving. I am spending it with my mother who has Internet.

All the solid mods take years to make anyway......nothing significant is likely to crop up anytime soon. A few more months to wait after Xbox is just fine with me.

What's PS4 got to do with hating offline? Had no problems with any game playing offline since the PS4 launched in 2013......why are people hell bent on making up this crap I will never understand.

Don't let past problems with BGS games and the PS3 put you off SONY.
I played FO3 GOTY, Oblivion and Skyrim for thousands of hours on the 360.
A few months ago I acquired a PS3 and bought Skyrim Legendary Edition and FO3 GOTY. Have hundreds of hours in both now.
99.99 flawless performance with both on PS3.
And the graphics are signicantly better too. And I mean significantly. There's details on the PS3 versions that never showed on the 360. There's enough improvement that it's almost like playing new games.

Besides that, MS designed the One as a do it all always online phoning home constantly you have no privacy system from the ground up.
SONY designed a gaming system from the ground up that doesn't need to phone home.

When I get ready, I'll be purchasing the PS4.

But maybe that's just me.

I'll vote for the PS4 since I'm a Sony loyalist. I do admit Bethesda games were horrible on the PS3 tho... But nowadays it seems the PS4 is actually considered the more powerful of the two, though I dunno if that's actually true or just really devoted fan talk. All I can say is I didn't have any issues with my PS4 so far.
