Good. Nothing more to discuss about this issue, really.

Although, I do wonder what sort of freebies Sony will consider giving out once the network is back up.

The funny thing is, neither side is right and neither side is handling the problem correctly.

Its a good thing I don't have a PS3... oh crap, my PSP. >.< Damn you sony!

Glad I never entered my card info there. And now I'm even more reluctant to put it there in the event that I'm tempted to buy a downloadable game.

Raises a good point, though. We sort of take it for granted that our info is secure, but even banks get hacked and they have waaaay more money to spend on security than video game companies do. Maybe even more money than Bill Gates! :o And Valve? Oh, right, they never release their sales data, my bad!

Always good practice to routinely check your balance aside from the monthly statements.

They already said they are rebuilding the infastructure to better protect the network. What do people want them to say or do? I mean I want it back online too, but Im not angry with Sony over it. I think they are doing what they can.

They could've said, "This is what happened and this is what we are doing about it and it should take around x amount of days, we will keep you posted. Sorry for the inconvenience" On day 1 like real companies do.

Thing is, they just didn't know. They've never shut down the PSN completely. Well, at least we know that it's back between Tuesday and the weekend now.

Oh, just found this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-25-psn-outage-caused-by-credit-card-scam

Now there is a valid reason to shut it down and keep a secret why. The less people know about this from bigger sources, the better.

What is the worst case scenario from this? Might all our PSN information get deleted? :o

Edit: I'm not sure what to think of that article. I mean there are articles stating hitler lives on the dark side of the moon too. :/

That's probably not how it works, the dev network would very likely not have access to that, either. I don't think that, except for the downtime, we'll see much change on our side of access to the network. When we have legal firmware, that is.

We still have trophies. But nobody can check right now which ones somebody else has.

The problem is that this entire issue is the result of sony's failure cascade - their incorrect implementations of encryption exposed issues in local security, which exposed issues in their online security, which exposed issues in their developer network security, which exposed issues in their developer network. Yes, in an ideal world there would be no way for credit cards to be accessible, but in an ideal world this problem wouldn't be here. PSN is down because sony was, effectively, Doing It Wrong. Unfortunately, this means we can't assume things are safe just because they should be safe.

Until now it's been only local privileges that have been exploited. Fair enough point though, one should never be so sure.

Prior to the network going offline, the developer network was compromised, which didn't do many of the same checks on incoming data (Most notable credit card details, cue heavy piracy!). That the network was shut down very soon after seems highly indicative to me that sony have more known vulnerabilities that they were hoping nobody would ever be able to exploit, but could have serious consequences. Pure speculation, of course, but the whole thing is going to be a PR disaster, I find it hard to believe they'd take the whole network down over piracy of PSN content alone.
