Yeah, this is pretty sad. Maybe if Sony spent some more time on network security and less on jealously making sure nobody can install Linux on their console, this may have been avoided.

Yeah, but you wouldn't be laughing if you did or you do use PSN. I'm not as upset about not being able to play online as I am that my Identity could be stolen. This is just ridiculous, I don't understand how Sony could let this happen. If I have to pay for PSN to ensure this does not happen again, fine.

See I said it. People are saying they would pay something they should be getting for free. Now people are willing to pay for it? I told you this is all a scam where everyone has to pay to play multiplayer now. Seems to be working now. This isn't the first comment I saw that said they are willing to pay now where before they would never pay for it.

I say this is all a scam. There is no way Sony is this incompetent. I know this happened to Microsof, but they had everything up and running 2 or 3 days later, not a week later.

Why would a company say "Oh yeah! someone hacked us and potentially stole all your data!" if it wasn't true? No company would be stupid enough to do what you're thinking

No company would make something like this up. The consumer backlash from "Oh, hey, we're gonna charge you now" would be quite considerably less from "Oh, yeah, well, we might have accidentally leaked all your data. Sorry about that - fancy footing the bill to rebuild our network?".

:banghead: Yeah and on the PC there is no scams going on the PC, yeah right.

As for information being stolen from you, lots of times all you need is the persons First name, Last name and address. From that, a person can call other places and say they are you but lost the information and want it back. For alot of instituions, all you need is name and address and year born. So yeah it can be really scary if someone has even a little bit of information about you.

So you have to pay money for multiplayer. And yes comapnies do think we are that stupid. About 8 or 10 years ago, EVERYBODY said they would never pay for multiplayer. Well millions do now don't they with Xbox Live Gold. Sony is kicking them selves in the butt for giving it a way for free. Hence why they have PSN+ now.

Before people said they would never pay for music on line. Some how apple convinced people to pay for something what they got for free. So yeah companies know we are that stupid. Just look at how some people are already saying they would pay for this service now if it is not hackable.

How is paying for music stupid? Anyway, I wasn't saying paying money for the service was stupid, I was saying that any company that lied about all of their users personal details being stolen is a very very stupid company.

Or they are very very smart. Again 8 or 10 years ago people said Microsoft were stupid and idiots for charging to play multiplayer, and look now, they have over millions of users. If Sony could do this, they wouldn't be stupid they would be brillian. To get people to pay for something they have for free now. That is brilliances.

How is lying about the fact that their users details have been stole even slightly clever???? I just don't understand how you can think lying to your entire fanbase is a good way to make them want to give you money?

If Sony are found to be lying about this I will come to your house and fellate you.

Oh I am not saying they are lying about it. I believe they were hacked, but I am saying they are using the excuse now so they can charge people for their free service so "it will be safer". Because it is "safer" it will cost more money to be so.

All I am saying is Sony will use it as an excuse that is all. No frabications using real events.

They can probably get it from your credit card.

No, they cannot. the only time a SSN is given to anyone is when your proving your identity either for a job or to get additional government ID. Visa and the like cannot collect that information from you, and unless you input your SSN or SIN onto the Internet with no encryption, then no ones getting a hold of it...

For those with CC info on PSN, there is only a "possibility" that this data was taken. seeing as how Sony shut down the entire network, I think it's safe to assume this person or people only got a handful of data before being locked out of the network like everyone else. I highly doubt these guys have everyones personal info. there's something like 70 million PSN users. no way they got everyones data. no way in hell.

now that if (it) has evolved into a conspiracy theory I'm gonna say it:

the illuminati did it

So you think they will start charging to play MP after this fiasco.

Wouldnt that be like kicking a wounded man on the ground?

I could see them trying to put "added security" into the PS+ subscriptions, and charging slightly more for them, but to make all their users start paying a subscription fee would alienate the fan base, considering a lot of people got a PS3 for the free online. I honestly don't think they can afford to lose any more business.

I don't think they really will do it, but I am cynical lately, so I would not be surprised if they did.

They might have to in order to pay for all the credit reports that http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109578-U-S-Senator-Blasts-Sony-for-Keeping-Breach-Secret wants them to pay for.

This is going to be a big black eye for Sony.

And it isn't even the first time its happened.

On topic, this is surprisingly long outage, and the account info being stolen is quite worrying. Still, no spam in e-mail, mysterious charges on credit cards nor accounts stolen, so far so good :hehe:

Read the last bit......

That's not so dramatic, the problem is that Sony has been trending down ever since a very short growth after the earthquake.

News about people claiming that their credit card data has already been used are popping up everywhere, but I tend to not trust eight out of nine sites I read this on. The shady side of the web is filled with nasty people, and I will never trust a pirate with neither patch, parrot or boat.
