My PSP died

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:37 pm

Well it finally happened

My PSP is now...

A brick :(

I seen that there was an update for my psp and started to update it. Unfortunately my PSP did not survive the update and died right in the middle of it.

Please join me in mourning my PSP

R.I.P.

Now you have an excuse to buy the Playstation phone, if it isn't [censored].

Just wait for this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_successor

I can't wait for a new Monster Hunter on that thing if rumors are true. It's been awhile since the series has had a graphics update and is well over due.

Wow, it really lived a long time, didn't it? My first one, uh, fell against a wall during Monster Hunter play... Could take the memory stick out of it, of course, and the disc wasn't broken either. ^_^
But I mourn the passing of my mouse, which died this weekend.

Considering Monster Hunter Portable Tri is already on PSP(1), it is unlikely to see Monster Hunter Freedom 3 on PSP2. Also with all the inconsistent news on whether it's on a single slate or slide-screen, doubt it will be out soon.

Rumors indicate the PSP2 won't support UMD.

Anyway, search on Craigslist. That's where I got my PSP 2000 + some accessories and games for $50.

If you know what is wrong with your PSP, you can try buying replacement parts on Ebay, though the LCD screen is pretty pricey (not so much for the PSP 1000's however). Have you ever opened it up to clean it out? Does the system boot up at all? I mean, you can buy a new MoBo for it, but I don't know if it comes with the necessary info (OS, or some equivalent) on it. There are used MoBo's for sale, too. In fact, there are replacement parts for everything. 'Tis rather amazing.

So an update broke your PSP? If it was an official update, can't you repair it or something?

Sadly no, a brick is a brick, and only with a second fat PSP could you try to repair it.

They've already made three games on the system, and with a planned fourth coming to North America. Why wouldn't there be a Monster Hunter on a PSP2 at some point in time? This might shock you, but there's this thing... we call it the future. WOOOOOO ghosts and scariness I know.

Edit
I highly doubt it will have no UMD or solid state games. Look at the epic failure the PSP GO was.

If an update broke it then surely you can use that as reason to get a new one from Sony.

http://www.giantbomb.com/news/rumor-psp-2-announcement-coming-this-month/2844/. I'll be pissed if it doesn't support UMD. I, for one, don't want a phone, music player, digital comic reader, and internet browser. I just want a little console I can take on-the-go and play anywhere I want. And physical discs, so I can rent games to see if I like 'em.

You should be able to unbrick it with a Pandora Battery. I won't link it here because they're generally used for questionable things (things that you shouldn't bring up if you're replying to this post), but it's your only hope to resurrect that particular PSP. Otherwise you could call Sony and see what they say. Obviously out of warranty, so I don't know how much they'd charge to service it.

Given the absolute disaster the PSP Go was, I'm calling it right now. No way in hell will this be an only digital system. The PSP Go didn't sell very well, and it opened up to some very lack luster reviews stemming from its digital only way of storing games. I suspect the PSP2 if it is digital only won't fare well against it's competitor the 3DS. More so when that one would be cheaper and use solid games. From a stand point where you think, it doesn't make any sense. It's like if you make a speed boat with wings that crashes, your solution is to make it twice as fast with double the wings. -_-

Does anyone even play with their PSP anymore? I know mine has only been gathering dust for the past several months. I've been meaning to play MGS Peace Walker and GOW Ghost of Sparta, as I hear they are both gems on the PSP, but haven't had enough time to play it.

I've been dumping hours and hours and hours (at least 70 hours cumulative) into Warriors of the Lost Empire. Addictive game, with a lot of replay value. Except the Darkseeker character absolutely svcks in comparison to the other three characters. For some reason, the devs didn't give her very good combat combos, and her skills are pretty "meh." I've beaten the game on all three settings with my Highlander, I've beaten it once with the Amazon, and I'm still working through Normal Mode with the Darkseeker and the Gladiator. You'll think at first that the game doesn't have a lot of content - however, a lot of enemies and weapons are is reserved for Hard and Hell difficulties. There's also Dungeon mode. You beat it in Hell difficulty, you unlock the Ascetic's den where you can pick up some awesome gear and fight oodles of enemies. Also, each time you beat the game, you get a mask which can change your character's model. It's pretty cool. The manual for the game is the most useless thing on the planet, and there's no FAQ on gamefaqs for it. I had to browse the forums to figure out how to Synthesize armor and weapons correctly, and to figure out how to get the gear I want from the Ascetic's den. My only gripe is that the level cap is at 50, and the skill level cap at 10. Oh well.

Also! Patapon and Patapon 2. Addictive and fun. I'm also playing Medievil: Ressurection, which is humorous. I use god mode because I can't get the hang of the combat.

Have you played God of War: Chains of Olympus?

Other games I want to get/try:
Undead Knights
Gladiator: Begins
Ghosts of Sparta
Patapon 3 (when it comes out)
Exit
Dead Head Fred
Sid Meier's Pirates
Fat Princess: Fistful of cake
Dante's Inferno
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
Little Big Planet
300 March to Glory
Dungeon Explorer: Warrior of Ancient Arts

If I didn't already have the PS1 Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, and Oddworld games, I would be tempted to buy them from the PSN store for my PSP.
