'Pub' games

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:35 pm

Would it be good if you go into a inn in a town and sit down and be ask to play a game of something? You could win gold or items and loose them as well. How about it? It would add more realism to these places, instead of going in, see two of three people sitting at different tables and drinking, with no conversations unless you talk to them? Good idea or bad idea?

Playing dominoes with a couple of Yorkshiremen who somehow got lost in Tamriel? I could get in on that.

I hated those aspects of other rpgs and Red Dead Rredemption. I would rather they didn't waste the programming on it. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I wouldn't call it a waste of time to make a tavern more like a real world tavern. You know, what with immersion and making it look like NPCs have lives and interests outside the PC's quest.

I'll go with yes. I usually don't care at all about things like that. I didn't really understand how to play FONV's Caravan game and I don't care to. But in TES, it would offer some extra roleplaying opportunities, so sure. If it's not in there, I won't mind.

Dice might would be cool, but I probably won't be spending much time in a tavern any way so I still say my opinion is no. Good thought though :)

off the top of my head:

arm wrestling, drinking contests, bar brawling (not to the death, everyone starts beating each other up until only one is standing and the rest is knocked out cold)

archery tournaments, arena fights, hunting competitions, etc

Yes and no.

Yes because they can sometimes be fun and they would add an aspect to role playing with your characters

No because they could make it really easy to earn gold. Example, Red Dead Redemption.

Yes, as long as they keep it simple and fun- and it isn't something you have to do for the quest line.

This would be AWESOME! :googley-eyes:

I love meh taverns in real life, so I want them to be as real as possible in the game as well. I'm a damn drunk, what can I say? lol

Dont see why not,
Plus, From what i've heard, Inn's and taverns are gonna play a bigger role in Skyrim than they did in previous Elder Scrolls games so it'd add alittle extra to Tavern activities.
Some kinda version of darts, With knives perhaps, and some dice/betting games would about do it for me. Shouldnt have too many as i dowt too many people will use them much.

I really dont care for mini games outside of lockpicking as well... If I want to gamble or play cards or domino's I can do that IRL or in a game specifically made for it, time is better spent elsewhere.

Take NV for example. They had the card tables you could sit down and gamble with. Tried it a few times and never touched it again. so "I actually dont ever do these kinda minigames" applies to a lot of people I would think, cause I def cant be the only one.

Quick-Saving allows for alot of Gambling exploits - there would have to be a bet limit.

One of the best aspects of Read Dead was being able to go to a saloon and kick back by playing a game of Poker; It was a nice break from the shootouts. I don't see any type of mini-game being a waste of time if it's done well.

It's a single player game...
Don't like it don't use it...
If this were a multiplayer game, I'd be all for this, but it really only effects whoever uses it. If you wanna ruin your game, that's your right. They may or may not put gambling in, if they have to put in anti-cheating measures, they most likely won't even bother putting it in the game.

Get rid of all cards that aren't 7's, 9's and 10's on your first turn (you need 3 of each) - lay down 7,7,7 across, then 9,9,9 and then 10,10,10 - you'll win pretty much every time :)

Anyway - I'd love some pub games in Skyrim - I feel it adds to the immersion :)

If they make some fun minigames I would totally be down for it. I get really into minigames. I wasn't that interested in playing blackjack in NV, but that is because I play it all the time in RL. I did however love the game in KOTOR.
