Public Bathrooms

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 6:04 pm

I hate public bathrooms, don't you? I try to avoid the at all costs but sometimes you just have to go. I went in the bathroom yesterday, two of the three stalls had piss all over the seat. The third and cleanest stall had a very large amount of dried nasal mucus(boogers, snot) on the walls which was very disgusting and gross to look at. The urinals in there had more hair in them than on my head which was very disturbing, and it looked like someone thought it would be funny to do number 2 in the one of them. Today I went in the same bathroom and found it was in the same state it was yesterday. The cleanest stall again, had no more boogers on the wall or so I thought. I noticed the wall had been painted, looking at it closer I saw that the snot was still there and the painter just painted over it. How disgusting, how could I public mall allow their bathrooms to be so dirty? Anyone else have similar stories to share?

Yes. I hate them, and they are often disgusting.

Even in office buildings with people that have high priced jobs, still leave feces in the toliet, and toilet paper all over the seats on a regular paper, and newspapers on the floor.

In part, I think, that is because of the automatic flush systems that don't flush. Building go through great expense to remove flush levers and put in automatic flush system, which end up causing less sanitary toilets. Because then people don't bother too look to see if it flushes, and even if they do, they don't bother to find the tiny little manual flush button.

I avoid public rest rooms as much as possible.

That does not sound as bad as what I go through everyday. At least you can flush the feces in the toilet. Theres feces in one of the urinals here and it has been there since yesterday and the amount of hair is disturbing. Also the guy who painted the walls never cleaned off the boogers first.

If the bathroom is in a crappy state, then go complain

Most of the ones that I've seen are in good condition

Yeah it literally is in a crappy state. The problem is I don't really know where to go to complain to. It is a public mall after all, only employees there only tend to the business of their respective stores.

Large malls often have a business office. Might you find that?

Security officer?

Even one of the stores in the mall might be able to give a call.

Most malls that I know of really do give a crap about their crappers.

This. I do inspections in malls. You can go to the business office. Or in many cases there is an engineering department that you can go talk to. And if you can't find either flag down a security officer, they are much more useful than just a rent-a-cop. They will generally point you in the direction you need to go in or at the very least take you to the person you need to speak to.

if public washrooms bother you, stay the hell outta prison.

*shudders*

Also the guy who painted the walls never cleaned off the boogers first.

Well, now, that's just plain laziness.

i hate it when people dont flush, i mean its just a quick hand movement, its not that hard, be courteous. I also can not understand how people can manage to avoid flushing an automatic toilet.

Yep. and you just know that the people who leave toilets in that state don't wash their hands. The walls, door handles etc. must be crawling with nasty germy crap. Always a nice thought when you finish washing your hands and then have to touch the filthy door to get out.

If the bathroom I need to use is befouled, I find another restroom. I also carry wet wipes and trial sizes of soap in my purse, because all too often, there is a lack of soap and toilet paper.

I think that all bathroom doors need to be dual-hinged. What's the point in washing your hands if you then have to grab onto the handle of the door in order to get out?

If I'm ever going to be leaving the house, I simply don't eat or drink anything until I get back. Public bathrooms are bad news, and I think working at a combination McDonald's/gas station when I was younger gave me a permanent fear of them.

I didn't think there'd been public bathrooms since the '50s/'60s. Most people tend to have baths in their own house these days, although I do dimly remember my grandparents having a tin bath hanging on the wall (and an outside toilet!)

Actually people bathe in sinks too.

My loathing of public restrooms is so great I use them only for "Number 1" except in cases of dire emergency. I have to go to San Francisco for an appointment next month (a city almost laughably short of public restrooms to begin with) and I'll do my best to make sure I'm ready before I leave the house that morning.

Most around here are fine. Even most in Fairbanks.

But then I'm rather used to an outhouse so don't ask me. LOL

Around where I live they are pretty nice and well-maintained. It's rare that you actually find one that makes you decide to wait until you find another restroom. But generally speaking, if I have to use a public restroom, I try to make as little contact with the place as possible.

You haven't experienced bad public bathrooms until you've lived in SA. :P

They're generally kept pretty well maintained around where I live, though there's always that one stall you don't want to be anywhere near. As for the whole opening doors with dirty handles goes we have it pretty good as well, you wash your hands outside the stall and I just push the door outside open with my feet.

I don't have much experience with them. I've been blessed with a "steel bladder", and I've only had to use a public restroom a couple times in my life.

I don't like to use public restrooms. I only use them at school or work really and I will very seldom enter the stall. When I'm done washing my hands I use the paper towel that I dried my hands with to open the door or I use my back shoulder to push the door open depending on the door type.

My first choice is restrooms in hotel lobbies.
next are restaurants, but some you have to order something.

but, public restrooms (stand alone) are a godsend when there is nothing else availble and you really have to 'go.'

Humans are not the cleanest of animals. kind of sad really.

The sensors often don't work correctly. And while most or all automatic toilets have a button to manually flush, it's sometimes very small and hard to find. So with an automatic toilet some people seem to figure "flushing is not my job" and just leave a used toilet behind.
