PUBLIC BURNINGs?

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:10 am

I don't think i would enjoy watching that.
Would we have the opportuinity save and heal them?

Kinda like shooting the rope of a hanging victim in RDR.

It's kind of hypocritic to say executions are bad when you keep murdering people and animals over and over again.

Public burnings? Nah, doesn't seem very Nordish. Sure, it might be cold in Skyrim, and it's a good excuse to throw a bonfire, but it's just too much of a hassle, takes too much time to set the whole thing up, and those kegs of ale aren't going to drink themselves. Waste of good firewood, too. Public executions like hanging, exposure, beheading, and 'feeding time' seem more like the kind of things a Nord would do.

As for other torture devices, no. The Nords are simply barbarians, wholly lacking the sophistication afforded only by the Empire to make all those wonderful toys. Like the rack, the iron maiden, the head crusher, the pear of anguish, the spider, the Judas cradle, the chair of torture, the lead sprinkler, the Spanish tickler, the crocodile tube, the knee splitter, the heretic's fork, and the Golden Girls marathon.

Well, since the Nords are loosely based on the Vikings, I'd say that hanging would be much more appropriate. They never really had 'law' other than personal vendetta, but they did hang nine slaves and all kinds of animals as a sacrifice to Odin every nine years at the temple of Uppsala.

Could make an interesting quest topic. I've always wondered how you would go about hanging a cow.

There should be some innocent people that you can save. It would be creepy to hear people screaming in pain. "And if it fills [them] with pain and suffering at the same time, all the better!"

Why should people get burned at the stake? This isn't medieval Europe.

This is sick.

Not at all. There's a difference between murder and self defense.

no. that would be decidedly unpleasant. screaming... actually, there just isn't any way to do it without it seeming lame, because they wouldn't make it seem like it was the real deal. not any more than you could kill children in FO3 and NV

Yes, and if you have a high speechcraft, you can go to their trial and get them killed for something they didn't do

No
I hate to see it but from the art work it seems there will be executions, by beheading. I hope I do not have to see an NPC slowly burned alive. Gruesome

Burning does seem a bit excessive, maybe hanging or even stoning,

I voted no because... Well [censored] dude, burning people at stakes is vile even for a video game, god knows the almost comical amount of blood and gore games like Fallout 3/NV and Dead Space have, it's not even gross, it's stupid. I would feel different if the OP was suggesting we see charred corpses on stakes after the fact, but I have a feeling he wants us to be forced to watch someone being nailed down and burned alive.

Not burning but other ways would be fine, they wouldn't be able to do burning well enough without scarring people for life.

My Opinions:

Executions -- YES!!!
Only Burning -- NO!!!
All sorts of executions (Hanging, beheading, burning, etc...) -- YES!!!

But yes, burning is a little excessive. You need to get it done fast, or else it's just kinda dumb.

No. I find the idea repellent, personally. To me, it also doesn't fit with what we've seen of the Nord culture or anything in Tamriel.

I want variety with my executions.

Drowning
Hanging
Flaying
The Spinning Wheel
Boiling Oil
Hemlock - other ways to poison.
Lashing
Beheading(I think we got this due to concept art)
Crushing/Pressing
Stoning
Sawing
Catapulting
Blood Eagle

I know a new execution for Skyrim: The mudcrab pitt. Victim is tied down in a pitt or such and the mudcrabs are released on him.

or you know just have a guy wear a wierd hair style shine a torch in the victims face while he keeps repeating the same things to him. Until he loses the will to live.

Oh I almost forgot.....Snu Snu.

Varying degrees of showmanship and pain depending on the region and the severity of the crime.

You know, the Elder Scrolls is a type of game where people can kinda role play to live out fantasies or be people they can never be but partially want to be. When I play, I don't want to pretend to be a person that witnesses people being tortured to death in horrible ways that actually used to exist. Personally, I don't think this belongs in The Elder Scrolls. Maybe it would be okay for a game where you weren't really role playing.

True, isn't the punishment in Nord culture a payment of money or furniture or some such

EDIT: There is a line between realism and obscenity, burning crosses it EVIDENCE of burning having happened (Burned corpses which also appeared in OB or something)

Is this going to be the new choices when the guards catch you?

"Stop! You violated the law!"

- Go to jail
- Hand over a chair
- Lettuce still makes fireshield potions, right?

Hmm... I wonder what I'd pick...
