PUBLIC BURNINGs?

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:54 pm

Is this going to be the new choices when the guards catch you?

"Stop! You violated the law!"

- Go to jail
- Hand over a chair
- Lettuce still makes fireshield potions, right?

Hmm... I wonder what I'd pick...

The guards will still make you pay a fine, but they'll call it "weregild". :)

well if someone was accused of being werewolf they could be sentences to being killed with silver then there corpse burned to prevent infecting others whether they really are or not could be discovered by you which would be like the vampire hunter quest in bruma only if the guy really was a werewolf he may offer to turn you/ offer for you to join his pack or he may turn right as you "prove his innocencs" and start attacking people.

How is a thread about public burning inappropriate yet threads about decapitating and killing aren't? I smell hypocrisy on here.

I voted yes. And yes to guillotine executions and torture. TESII had torture device so why not make use of them?

Public burning, no. It would be interesting to see a gathering in front of a guillotine every once in awhile, much like they did in France way back when before any of us were born.

You will notice that the thread is still open.

If people start posting extremely graphic descriptions of what they want to see, do, smell, etc. it is no longer appropriate. And if the decapitation discussions get too over the top, those would get locked too.

Start discussing how you want to be able to torture in detail, and that would be locked. Someone made a torture mod, using certain settings from Shivering Isles. That mod isn't discussed on these forums. The forums are 13+. If you want to go into graphic descriptions of how you want to torture npcs, I suggest clearing it through Gstaff first.

If this is put in the game, we better not ever let Fox news get wind of it..

People were crucified in NV, if that didn't get a media-hellstorm, this wouldn't.

Watching someone burn to death is disgusting, not enjoyable. Besides, wouldn't hanging or beheading be more traditional?

And Xeivous, dwarf fortress does not show you these acts in any way other than in pixellated form. In any case, I would have thought most people would have a negative visceral reaction to things like this. I guess not. =/

Ever see Silent Hill? The burning scene was disgusting. The game can be dirty, gross, mature, unforgiving and cruel. But burning to death is a tad too far imo.

There were people who wanted to be able to break into a house, tie up parents and kids, then torture/gut/skin and kill the parents [think Lucien LaChance style] in front of the kids, then kill the kids, then set the house on fire in pre-Oblivion days. Mods have had to delete an incredible amount of garbage at various points in time. Its what makes me jump to conclusions that certain themes in threads are nearly doomed from the start, no matter how carefully the op words the first post.

I stand by my werewolf alternatives they wouldn't be graphic other than a sick murderer regreting ever killing anyone plus it could fit into nord viking custom of getting one last fight before they die somewhat honorable yes but no gorey violent stuff just getting smacked till they fall down ....like every fight in oblivion....

would be good for immersion imo.

go to a tavern, have a beer, go with your companion and a mob to watch someone get burned at the stake.

If it fits with whatever area and peoples lands the crime occurred/individuals getting executed in. Punishments should fit the bill. Of coarse there needs to be a good reason if it's an execution unless you mean some random individual committing the act in psychotic trauma.

And just because I know there'll be an unneeded Fallout New Vegas reference I'll do it and end it.

Caesar's Legion having reasons for burning and hanging on a cross are an example of fitting with the groups ways and easily identifiable with their whole Roman......,empire is it? Midnight here, setup by the ex FOTA Caesar was an acceptable and realistic take.

It seems too extreme to burn people alive, I doubt most townsfolk would like that.
I can only see it go as far as with a quick and clean beheading, and even that's pushing it.
TES games have never really been about savage violence like that, so I don't see it happening.

Public executions should be in the game, but shouldn't be excessive. I don't want to see someone burning or having their head chopped off everytime I enter a city.

I got a nice Viconia flashback when I read the title. Too bad it didn't last long.

To the explicit torture fans, it doesn't make you look cool if you say you're into that stuff. It just shows how incredibly immature and unknowing in the ways of the world you really are.

Public executions would look great, but only if it onlyh appened a few times during the playthrough. In my opinion, only quest targets should be punished. For example you could have this Dark Brotherhood mission were you must plant evidence in a mans house to get him arrested and accused for murder. Guilty or not. Then you would recieve a letter with a invitation the the execution ceremony.

I think buring at the stake is a little over the top, but hangings and decapitations would be pretty cool.

Brutal. But, yes, I'd like to see it. Other forms of execution would also be great. As a matter of fact, I think there will be executions, you saw the Executioner in te Art of Skyrim. So I'm positive this will be featured.

This is sick.

Not at all. There's a difference between murder and self defense.

In all honestly it's hard to justify any sort of killing. At the end of the day it's also human nature.

I don't see how stoning is any less gruesome than burning someone alive. Stoning still goes on today in some places in the world (if you read the news, you'll know where), and it is utterly appalling. Public spectacle executions are in poor taste even for a video game, unless an atmosphere of solemnity strongly permeates the context.

If the Nords are about justice and honor, then I would question whether they would stoop to the level of cowards and slimeballs to likewise debase and mutilate convicted criminals in such an animal fashion.

Yeah, sure. It fits with the times I guess. Although a beheading executions seems more fitting.

If this game is supposed to be like medieval europe or even nineteenth century America then no it is normal. People would go to watch them burn witches at the stake, hell a LOT of people went to watch lynchings bringing their children even. Even today people still go to see someone get a lethal injection so it is not uncommon.
