PUBLIC BURNINGs?

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 12:13 am

would be good for immersion imo.

go to a tavern, have a beer, go with your companion and a mob to watch someone get burned at the stake.

I like it. I doubt we will see it, but I like it nonetheless.

Public burnings? Isn't that what is going on right now? I kid :teehee:

But yes, I would like to see public executions, along with criminals we catch in quests.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is suspiciously specific?
Anyway I don't think it'll be in the game, constantly brought up by fans during the development of an RPG and constantly ignored.

It would be really cool, that if we did a crime serious enough the punishment would be death. It got kindof boring to be able to kill 50 people and only have to pay a fine. There shouldn't be a choice you should be killed.

I voted yes, though I wouldn't like it to be something that happens all the time by any means. Once or twice during some side quests or as the ending of a guild storyline where you burn an rival guild at the stake... I dunno, something with has a bit more meaning (for the character) than just random criminals town guards capture.

I want variety with my executions.

Drowning
Hanging
Flaying
The Spinning Wheel
Boiling Oil
Hemlock - other ways to poison.
Lashing
Beheading(I think we got this due to concept art)
Crushing/Pressing
Stoning
Sawing
Catapulting
Blood Eagle

I know a new execution for Skyrim: The mudcrab pitt. Victim is tied down in a pitt or such and the mudcrabs are released on him.

or you know just have a guy wear a wierd hair style shine a torch in the victims face while he keeps repeating the same things to him. Until he loses the will to live.

Oh I almost forgot.....Snu Snu.

Varying degrees of showmanship and pain depending on the region and the severity of the crime.

My main beef with Oblivion was that you could kill someone and get hauled away to jail for it or even pay some gold to make the problem go away, but there are a few NPC's that were outright executed by the guards on the spot for petty theft. Either the guards are merciless towards people not born under a certain prophecy, or the criminals all chose to resist arrest because they lack any sort of self preservation. In Skyrim, I'd just like to see more people get hauled off to jail instead of executed. But if they are to be executed, I'd prefer something set up like real-world executions, put on as a show in the town square to set an example.

If it's in, can't be overdone. And it's not as unlikely as you might think, since
Spoiler
we already know about one execution.

Well crucification was in Fallout New Vegas. So I can't see this being against rules.

I take it you've never been to the dwarf fortress forums? A great discussion that went on was on how to engineer something to keep mermaids in captivity, allow them to breed only for their children to be automatically taken away and killed for their bones, as the bones were worth a good amount of cash. (I apologize for being a tad off topic)

Watching someone burn to death is disgusting, not enjoyable. Besides, wouldn't hanging or beheading be more traditional?

And Xeivous, dwarf fortress does not show you these acts in any way other than in pixellated form. In any case, I would have thought most people would have a negative visceral reaction to things like this. I guess not. =/

No but if a man or mer kills a whole family of people violently the punishment should fit the crime so either bring back the families ghost/druegr to kill him or I dont know break his legs cover him in chickens blood and throw him in a known werewolf infested area preferable by teleportation spell so as to avoid likelehood of innocents getting killed/turned transporting the criminal scum to justice.......what are you looking at......the only people who wouldn't support this must be murderers lol. or they dont support death penalty in video games either.

No, doesn't sound very "Nordish" to me, although I don't claim to be a lore buff. Beheading seems more their deal ;)

I think that public executions would be good, especially if you can save the criminal and he rewards you

Then again, we have already seen a public execution in TES. Just play the Bloodmoon main quest
Spoiler
, as you have the chance to sentence someone to be eaten by wolves.

Wow, boiling oil, flaying and sawing. And crushing! How awesome wouldn't that be? :hubbahubba: The game would be banned in quite a lot of countries though.

Yes, there were crucifixions in FNV. Other than being crucified, there was no other visible signs of torture. No graphic step by step descriptions of what happens when someone is burning to death. Do I think someone would actually post about that in glowing terms, and mention its too bad there isn't a way to get the smells too, for immersion? Yes. Stopping by the pub for a tankard and watching someone die in a painful grisly manner has already been described as entertainment. Would *that* level of description be appropriate for the forums? No.

I do not have a desire to see even a fake human being or creature suffer being burned alive, drawn-and-quartered, or undergo any other cruel, malicious form of execution. Corporal punishment is one thing, but something as cruel as burning someone at the stake is barbarically gratuitous.
