There is something weird going on with my toilet and I think I have seen some people with plumbing expertise giving advice here before.

The toilet in my main/kids bathroom is acting strange. When it is flushed you can hear water running to refill it but very slowly, it would take days to refill the tank at the rate it fills. If I turn the water supply to the toilet off, then right back on everything goes back to normal and it refills in a matter of seconds. Until it is flushed again that is, then I have to repeat the same process. The only other toilet, in my room is not affected and I haven't noticed any other problems with water supply in the house.

Anyone have any ideas before I have to venture into the unknown wilds of the internet to find a solution?

The problem's in the flotation valve device (doo-hickey) that hangs in the tank, when the water drains during a flush, the flotation drops, in turn opening the valve and filling the tank.

Sounds like it don't open, huh? Especially since once you take the pressure off of the valve (by closing off the main) the valve does open, you need either a new valve or possibly a new flotation set-up that then has said valve built in somewhere..

I changed out the flotation device in my toilet last summer because it was an old one that didn't have an economy flush
- it has a secondary valve setting that saves water.. not to be used to flush away #2's.. :nono:

There's a good chance that your local Home Depot will carry a simple drop in replacement
