Pure Evil

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:27 am

Started up a new game as a "Politician" (mod enables) with the intent to play Dead is Dead (which I'm going to bend the rules on _slightly_). Starting out with only a KNIFE and a dirty suit at Big Town is a real drag I thought . . . But I was good and didn't kill anyone.

Went to Silvers on my way to Megaton. Conned her out of the cash, then tried to pick pocket her and got caught. At that point something snapped and I killed her. Then I went to Megaton and basically followed my standard path. Until I got the better deal out of Burke. At that point I decided to do it, blow the whole dang place up, just to see it, just once.

So, to get the most out of the deal, I decided to kill everyone in Megaton FIRST (difficult to get XP for killing people when they are blowed up with a nuklar bomb) and steal everything that was not nailed down.

To make a long story short . . . I've now killed pretty much everyone in town, except Jericho and Burke. I've got to level up and get my explosive skill up to rig the bomb, so I figure I'll use crater side supply as a home base for a while (porta bed, water filter and grill all coming in handy! ).

I was suprised how after I killed Doc Church inside his clinic, and then when I came out, initially no one was Aggro, but then they turned red. Later, after I killed folks in other places, people would turn aggro, but then if they had not been immediately in view of me, might turn back to green. I didn't realize the AI script was that sophisticated, which is now making me wonder how this whole karma and "Very Evil" Wasteland Outlaw, thing is going to work.

Will I be able to engage in normal dealings with non-villain NPCs in places like Rivet City, Big Town, etc.?

I was kinda thinking that after I blow up Megaton, I'll see the error of my ways and reform into an avenger for good.

Any comments or suggestions?

Ive done it, killing in Megaton will not affect people in Rivet City, just to answer your question.

You will not be able to do the Wasteland Survival Guide quests. Unless you already did them.

Killing Moira does'nt do your very evil career any good. It does'nt do any career any good.

You are better off doing the Wasteland Survival Guide. It has zero karma and is a easy way to start. If you don't do it, you end up with hard quests to do and nothing else.

It is a noob starter quest. It is designed to give you easy targets and show you diferent areas, for lower starter levels.

Not doing it is just shooting yourself in the foot. Do it well, honestly and do all the optional stuff and you get extra items. And a good guide.

I don't see why you would kill Moira anyway. She is a useful npc.

There are plenty of ways to be evil.

You don't have to kill every person you meet.

You can kill most of the annoying people you meet though.

Just make sure you get their quests done first.

Being a slaver is a good way to be evil.

Stealing is also good.

But being a slaver is better, less chance to be caught and have to fight entire settlements.

And more caps.

And don't blow up Megaton till you get Jericho out.

There is no point in killing useful npcs.

Like doctors. Or traders.

Or quest npcs.

Make sure you are higher than level 6 before you blow up Megaton.

Getting to and living in Tennpenny Tower is a higher level area.

I ended up in one failed very evil attempt living in Tenpenny Tower , surrounded by enemies that were too high for me to fight.

Every time I stepped out the door I had to run away or fast travel to easier areas.

I barely got there alive to blow up Megaton.

And also to know is. Tenpenny Tower does not have repair vendors.

You can buy and sell but they do not repair stuff.

You have to go elsewhere.

That is annoying.

Your evilness in other areas does not affect your dealings with others in other areas.

And most settlements forget any evil or killing done in 3 days time. Just go to another game cell and wait for 3 days.

But some things can change entire factions attitudes with you.

Don't mess around with the slavers in one or two quests, they don't forget I think.

Play it straight with them. Or don't get seen.

And once you invade Fort Independance all Outcasts are your enemies.

Blowing up Megaton is dumb even for an Evil character.

Im inclined to agree with that.

It is fun watching it go boom but it is better leaving it alive really.

It is fun blowing up Megaton. And the Tenpenny Tower suite is nice.

It just does'nt make much sense when you have to go to Rivet City to get your stuff fixed and your surrounded by high level monsters, when you live in Tenpenny Tower.

Moira is always there in Megaton when you need stuff fixing.

It is hard trying to get out the door at early levels.

The Doctor is rarely in the wellness centre. The Megaton Doctor is always in the clinic.

You have to go to Rivet City to get healed and buy medicine most of the time.

The people in Megaton are nicer.

The residents in Tenpenny Tower are mostly unpleasant or at least merely polite apart from Herbert 'Daring' Dashwood.

If you disarm the bomb free you get random gifts from the residents.

You should also know the compass gets reversed in or near the Megaton Ruins.
It makes navigating tricky.

And the area is covered in orange clouds.

Blowing up the bomb is a lot of fun, and I will do it again.

It just makes your game harder and have more travelling.

Do it! Press the red button!

Do it if you want to get evil fast. :)

I spent the first time I played it wanting to blow up the bomb whenever I looked at it. And that was a very good playthrough for the good karma trophies.

Everyone should blow up Megaton at least once in their Fallout 3 gaming, lol. :D

There is two other large nukes encounters in the game.

One is a satellite station where you can drop a sub orbital strike on the area.

And there is one in Fort Constantine.

A ICBM you can set off from inside the bunker.

You should blow up Megaton is you are going all out to be evil. I always do as many evil things as possible when I play games as evil.

Yeah, you are talking good sense. In my restart (one of scores really) I did blow it up just to experience that part at least once. Too bad the cloud disippates so fast . . . But then my own moral compass won out, and I just foldered that save "Evil Character" and went back to just before I decided not to tell the sheriff about Burke and then have continued playing as good guy. It is what comes naturally I guess

Pressing the button and watching all of Megaton dissapear and all those lives end in a mere second was a breathtaking thrill, but being evil's not for me. I felt bad about it, virtual as they may be, and started up a good char.

I blew up Megaton ONLY to kill Moira in the most epic way possible ( I got Jericho first though )
After I watched the boom boom from Mr Tenpenny's balcony I decided to check out the ruins of Megaton up close.
Soon after fast travellling there I was approached by a flaky faced Moira Brown...

Yes, even when you know she survives, it is still a shock when she comes out of the smoke like nothing happened, lol.

It's interesting how being evil in the game can leave a guilty stain on my real character. I actually feel remorse and loss when I've gone virtually and violently astray. Creepy!

I am the same way. I have a hard time playing truly evil characters. That is why I rarely do. I have never blown up Megaton, and cannot see me ever doing it. Although I will admit that I have watched the nuke go off on You Tube at least a dozen times... ;)

I found it underwhelming when I finally did a run where I nuked Megaton only to discover I had just murdered hundreds of people for a one room efficiency apartment. Even TT's house prosttute has a better suite than I did.

Hey I forget what happens with respawns without mods. I have some mod called Interior Respawns that you can set to 1, 3, 5, 7 15 days or even matters of years.

I cannot recall what vanilla is like. Do they just not respawn at all?

I'm doing an evil playthrough atm. Trying to do all the evil options and quests I can stomach but at times I feel pretty guilty about some of them.
I also settled on being pragmatic evil rather than pure evil. I don't kill for fun, just for profit.

edit: there are some times when the game is annoying
those mutie captives I always release. Theres no point to just leaving them there and I'm not killing someone for just a wasteland settler outfit. I'd have liked it if they were enslaveable. That would've given me an evil and pragmatic option

ok - now I've got to watch it. hehe. ...just did...and...it was even better than I expected.

BTW: It seems that the two kids running around in Megaton are not only immortal, but they are also able to bilocate or perhaps they are omnipresent. They must be angels, looking after both Megaton and Freeside. How do I know they are immortal? That's not a story I wish to recount. It's in the past and I'm not proud of it.

Meh. Evil is an easy cop out. That`s the nature of evil and why I always play Good. Good is always hard. You need discipline to be a successful good character.

Edit, ps: By the way,if you were playing a truly evil character, you`d free the captives, take all their stuff, then shoot them as they start to run to freedom! And nick their clothes.

Evil needs no practical reason to be evil. Being evil is a goal in itself.

The reason is. To be evil. Other reasons are just a bonus.
