Push Back

Post » Wed Sep 16, 2009 2:11 am

So I have been losing my mind, I needz this game to be released and I can't seem to find a reason as to why they pushed the release date back. Does anyone have a clue or a reason why this was done?

I think because they needed more time to perfect the entire game. Beta's have been released in several locations, so in the months leading up to the release, they are trying to get as much feedback as possible to completely perfect the game. I feel the frustration you do mate, but it's for the good of the game. That way it won't be a complete disappointment.

They aren't finished with the game. They need more time to balance things and more polish never hurts.

There is such a thing as too much polish take Duke Nukem forever, now it's too the point that I don't even want to see anything about the game. But I'll try to be more patient lets hope it's out in early spring

That's true i suppose. How long has the community been waiting like close to 10 years? A good example is TF2 that was forever in development and was excellent at the end.

Another fail would be FFXIII that was in devlopement forever and look at how much they dissapointed the FF followers. Was basically a repetitive grind fest so dissapointing. Though the enviroments and creatures were awsome they let everyone down with the mechanics of the game.

I take the view that Duke was more a case of incompetence than polish. 3D realms went under for a reason which is a shame, I quite liked Terminal Velocity which I think was the first game I ever played. TF2 was going on Valve time and hence was never pushed back, just as Half Life will not be pushed back once it is released however is now in a state of limbo which will not have existed once the game is shipped.

Brink is just being polished. Take heart that they're allowing hands-on plays with it at cons, it's coming soon.

While Brink is definetly my most anticipated shooter then I wouldn't mind it getting pushed back a year if it would mean that they would make the game absolutely perfect.

It does svck that it was pushed back but like others have said, it adds alot of time for polish and such, and plus i have PLENTY of games to pass the time, Halo Reach espically. and Dead Rising 2, Little Big Planet 2, Kingdom hearts Birth By Sleep, AC"Brotherhood, Killzone 3, Infamous 2, etc. trust me with all these games itll go fast.

They do. Look at SC2, which was in beta for such a long time to balance out units.
You need to balance out abilities, weapon stats, ...

VG247: Brink was recently delayed into 2011, which is kind of a bummer, because I want to buy it. Could you explain why you felt like the game needed a little extra time in the oven?

Paul Wedgwood: We’re not adding any additional things to it. Essentially, we’re gonna spend longer in the beta phase. Because it’s a really ambitious game, and now that people can see what we’ve done with weapons – the number of weapons, the number of weapon modifications, the number of abilities, the number of items and gadgets – they can see the interrelations between those many components sets up some very specific balancing challenges.
And for Brink, we want to make sure people enjoy playing months after they’ve started playing – or years after they’ve started playing! I think in order for us to achieve that well, we want to have the best possible period of balancing and polishing.

there's a LOT to balance, the bodytypes must be balanced, wich involves the guns being balanced, wich involves the attachments to be balanced, and then they need to make sure the classes are balanced aswell.
put all those things together, and i can see they'll be getting a headache just stopping anything from being overpowered

Thank you for all the information guys. All in all still have to wait for the release but I hope that this is the final time that they push the date back.

I should have noted in the original post that I saw that the game has been delayed twice already but what ever. All that matters is that I have already bought this game and now is the long....LONG....Really Long wait to release. Which I can only hope is in the very near future. I am praying there are no more delays and that we will be seeing it on store shelves in the spring for sure.
