Push′n′tug, pull′n′hug

So we were given the ability to grab objects in Oblivion and it was great fun, and we could even grab and drag people... as long as they were dead...

But what if we could do it while they are alive ? Many have requested the ability to kick people so that they can push them away often resulting in devastating deaths by falling from high places. But we are not getting the ability to kick it seems, but what about allowing the stronger characters to grab people like objects and tug them around ? I don′t mean anything much, people are not objects after all, however even IRL the most common of folk can push a person of average physique even if it is only a step backwards.

I′d like it to be something that took strength and agility into account, you′d have to check your strength up against the strength + agility of your enemy to be able to push him a bit, so that warriors of alike strength and the most agile of acrobats would not just be thrown around as if they were not trained in the arts of the body, but different people have different ideas and my only question for now is if you′d like to be able to grab people, be it in or out of combat.

To be clear BTW we would be slammed back in combat by weapons and fists in Oblivion but here I am only and purely talking about grabbing and pushing.

I've described this before. I don't want to go over it again, but basically the grab button would be contextual and allow you to grab different body parts. You could then either use it to throw them, or you could attack them. Grabbing their head, for example, would put it into a head lock. Attacking it would punch them in the face, while pressing a direction would throw them in that direction. Grabbing an arm would result in an arm bar, and pressing attack would force the limb until it breaks.

Of course, certain stats would allow some people to be very difficult to grapple, and grappling would be based on a person's hand to hand skill, although it could be useful for any character (grabbing an opponent and slitting their throat, for example).

Hells yes. It does kinda irk me, standing facing eachother and swinging swords isn't really sword fighting. Real fighting is dirty and nasty, grabs, shoves, butts, everything. It would be nice if you could do it but it'd be tough to implement...would be a lovely addition to a future game and really give a new dynamic to expert fist fighters.

After all, I'd expect a true master of martial arts to be able to effectively disarm an opponent who is unskilled very quickly indeed, would love to see the enemy swing then the fist fighter grab his arm, pull him forward off balance then counter attack, tripping them, quickly snapping their neck (if they were really good) or attempting a disarm...

I've not got a serious idea tbh.
However my non serious one is the wheel.

Honestly if you could pop up an interface when close to a npc and click move, talk.
It could help with keeping areas clear and free, then just tag an anim to the act.. I.E shove to the action you chose.

For a companion you just add extra features to this wheel, again much like the Torment interface wheel.

And when the tavern wench slaps you silly and the burly Nord bouncer throws you out into the street? ;)

It would be cool but I think you should only be able to do it when you're unarmed

I'd rather slash away with my sword than dropping my weapon and pushing someone.

Seems kinda pointless. Maybe for roleplay, but it'd be a complicated system to implement. Besides, I don't want this to be a boxing game (hate those games)

considering how much dwarf fortress I play, I saw yes to throwing people around, breaking limbs, and tearing them apart.

Liked the suggestion too. UNFORTUANTELY, chances of it being implemented are SMALL. IMHO.

Would it though.
I'm no expert, but did not Hitman... something or another, have a push function.
I know most of those kill pieces required a scripted place to perform with.. a ledge or some such.
But the function was available all the time, you could even do so on any staircase to shove them down.

I was thinking it would be good to start fights especially in bars. A good intimidation tactic to help manipulate a situation or decrease a person's likability if/when needed. On the other hand I liked being able to throw things in Oblivion, but it never worked as a distraction. Which was it's only practical purpose for me. I just didn't get off on smashing an area just "because".

If this does become an option I think that everyone should be able to push everyone.

Aww you.

In other news it just crossed my mind that potential spellswords have been grouching over not being able to block with their 1-h weapon, but since they have a free hand would it not make up for the lack of blocking if you could tug people around ?

What do you guys who are intending to be spellswords think ? Personally I′d be content with the lack of a block function if I got to pull people around.
