pve and the endgame

Post » Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:48 am

I am not a pvper. and the few bouts of pvp i did test didn't exactly inspire confidence.

In mmo's i usually play as a raider or crafter. I like going out into a field and farming boar liver for a few hours than selling it for significant value to people who refuse to hunt boars.

I am curious if anyone has heard or seen any testing of adventure zones? or any high tier pve content (ie the 20-50 range.

I keep hearing "the game will open up after 10"... but i've tested content to level 20 and it didn't feel that way to me with how the skill plugin system works. So I am curious what people mean by that and if that only applies to the people who chose to pvp.

I'll be honest and say I haven't got any answers to your questions but you should remember that the beta was heavily restricted which is probably why it didn't open up after level 10. They are keeping a lot of content hidden from us until release.

I got only to lvl 10, but have heard people say the world "opens up" after you pass the first 3 zones. Not sure what level that is.

From what we know so far from a pve perspective, there are a number of veteran dungeons , level 50+ and 50++ (questing or something similar in enemy zones) content, and Adventure zones. Dont think anyone knows what adventure zones are yet and have not got any confirmation if they will be there at launch, but i assume it will be soon after launch if it doesnt make the deadline. In all honestly its hearsay atm since we havent heard anything and very few closed closed beta testers might have experienced them.

End game in this game is pvp primarily and pve secondary if you really wanna argue this or debate it with me I will do so and explain why, but I would like you to do some research first....research these games:

DAOC - the original game Matt Firor was a lead developer in and where the pvp mechanic currently in TESO Originated

Warhammer - another game Matt Firor was a lead developer in that used the DAOC mechanic

GW2 - another game that borrowed this mechanic

TESO - another game Matt Firor is a lead developer in that uses the DAOC mechanic

all 4 of these games have the same system, level up via PVE do your crafting and growing in a PVE world so that someday you can step up and be the Emperor in the PVP world, and make your faction the dominant faction over the entire world due to your prowess in battle, THIS is the system we are dealing with

YES there will be PVE in this game at endgame as well BUT ALL PVE in this game is still centered around someday you can step up and be the Emperor in the PVP world, and make your faction the dominant faction over the entire world due to your prowess in battle,

the sooner you guys accept this and realize this the sooner all this back and forth bickering and debating will come to an end and the sooner you guys can make a more educated decision as to wether or not this is the game your looking for.

you want more example?

1) little to no bank space - they dont expect you to be a hoarder since most of your end life will be spent in pvp

2) no catering to alts - all toons share the same little bank space which means your probably not going to waste time with an alt since you cant store anything with it anyways

3) perfecting 1 toon for pvp will take all your time and effort again the reasoning behind little to no storage space

4) the items you get with your game aka the rings the armor the horsey etc are for one toon only why? they dont encourage players to play alts this is a pvp focused game and your goal in life is to be emperor

I can go on and on and on with different things that point ot this game being pvp centric but there is no point but I will try

I actually agree with you on some points(doubt it has anything to do with alts or bank space). Its all specualtion ofc , but i believe adventure zones will be more like instanced world events in other games. Reason i feel this way is atm combat is not responsive enough for competitive pve , not to mention lack of control over pets and heals as such. I think anyone who comes here looking for competitive raid content might be disappointed. Again like i said above , its my speculation thats all and i have pre-ordered the game to enjoy the levelling experience rather than expect any endgame for PVE.

I wouldn't necessarily define it as raiding ,or que for a dungeon lockout. I am one of the older gamers back from when mmo's were about the world you could adventure in. So my hope for eso is that as a single player i could just go off in a random direction at max level and find a little hole in the ground with a coven or a fort with bandits. (as is my standard experience with elder scrolls) And be able to sack it on my own for the fun of it. Yes i understand that as an mmo certain conventions need to be made. There might be other players in the vicinity or you shouldn't really be able to do this reasonably until higher level.

If the end game pve is overtuned that only groups will be able to handle it then it makes group a necessity. Not necessarily a bad thing but making something impossible to solo isn't a good design approach either. Not every fort needs to be a group quest.

I am not downing pvp. Or pvpers. Nor trying to start a flame war. I had a question concerning features of the game that concern me and my preferences... It's just not what I look for in mmo's unless it's a completely open world experience or a game that's completely tiered towards it.

War hammer died a quick death gw2 pvp is a Zerg joke not played dark age so can't comment but 2/3 died because of their pvp not pve, to say the game is pvp centric is just off to say the least, pvp is niche in a mmo, out of 7 mil WoW players how many pvp? How many are in w3 in gw2 compared to champ trains.

If this was a pvp centric game there would be open pvp everywhere no questing, no starter islands geting the story started, no crafting ect, emperor could read like the top 1% in WoW arena ie a title and a cool mount, not forgetting elder scrolls is a pve game series, they won't alienate the ppl who would buy it for a co op elder scrolls game.

DING DING DING DING DING give this man a cookie this is my whole point, and your forgetting warhammer and DAOC which you didnt play both had extensive PVE while you were levelling up BUT like i said the final goal in mind the moment you created your character was to be the king of the world
