Its like you think there is some sort of checklist template that all MMOs have to follow to work.
Its quite the opposite, most MMOs will fail because they simply follow the "template" and just spew out another WoW that nobody plays cause they can just play WoW.
To be a succesful MMO you need some new and fun mechanics that will pull players away from other MMOs and keep them.
TESO has chosen to focus on large scale pvp and not small scale e - peen competitions. If you don't like it, then this isnt the MMO for you.
Capturing those little resource areas was actually the least entertaining aspect of cyrodill pvp...(PVE?)
I don't really care about arenas personally, but if they keep the PvP crowd happy, why not? They seem like they wouldn't require that much dev time and the subscriptions will go toward making more raids for me.
TL;DR version:
1. Some want completely structured mini-pvp pocket world in which they can eliminate all potential unplanned risks and min-max the same combos over and over.
2. Some want to go anywhere in tamriel and gank low levels without risk.
3. some want to port right back to the keep wall to avoid unplanned interactions with other players, or the 3-5 minute run from keep to keep.
So,
TL;DR response:
Social interactions and open world with unplanned encounters with humans keeps games alive. Static scripted FOTM fights are a recipie for sub loss.
Buy a forward camp; use it. Back in DAOC you could spend 30 minutes getting buffed and back out to your opponents frontiers. Don't expect sympathy when you QQ.
It's not PvP; it's AvAvA. Unplanned, messy, surprising, open, varied, and fresh daily. Other MMo's with the same formula over and over are that way -->
Sounds to me like the OP is just biased toward one type of PvP and thinks that all avid PvP players prefer this... I had WAY more fun with PvP in Lineage 2 than I did in Rift (the most experienced I got in arena PvP) and almost all I did in the many hundreds of hours I put into those game was PvP. I think you are under estimating the amount of people out there who enjoy large scale and objective based PvP. I agree there will be a lot of people who will get bored with the Campaign PvP that ZOS has set up but I think before deciding to stop and cater to the small scale PvPers they need to spend a good long while focusing on and tuning then retuning the large PvP before declaring it "smoothed out" enough to start working on a form of small scale PvP on the side.
Asking for small scale PvP is one thing, if they know can do it and they do then good for them but declaring that it is unfinished otherwise is simply untrue.
Standing ovation.
The release gets closer and the daoc lovers are showing up...
