Permadeath and full-loot PVP are not going to happen. They have been discussed internally and we have no plans for either of those options.

Indeed.

New topic - In real life people who use the term "PvP" should be shot and their corpses and houses looted. Yes or No? Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (

??? LOL... :?

I debated whether or not to put it in there. I figured it was better than nothing because at least having a vague answer means people won't keep asking about it. I guess the full answer is "A decision about vehicles has been made and we're not going to tell you what it is, so stop asking."

Cool, 1 week free trial of FOOL... Spends 20 minutes creating a cool looking character... grabs a shoddy shotgun and backpack canteen of water... walks out of a dogtown... HEADSHOT DEAD ! Gets looted... Goes to Character creation screen... logs off, deletes game.

Am I missing anything?

Full loot PVP aint so bad.

There's another fan-made fallout online mmo game based on the fallout1/2 sprites, where literally everything is possible loot wise. I've been a part of that game for a while now, and i must say the constant danger gives a very true-to-fallout athmosphere.

In cities NPC guards wont let pvp happen -most of the time as they arent immortal, players can trade relitavely safely(beware of thiefs tho, yes, the steal skill is implemented and you can steal anything), but in the wasteland, if you are alone, and come across another player, its risky in the first place to communicate as the first player to fire usually wins...This gives the players a sense of caution, which every single other game lacks. Every game is about the "hero" theme, that you can do anything reckless without any consequence. Dont like a player who is 200 levels above me? Smack him in the face why not. Not in fo2238 tho, if you see a guy in metal armor, run first, ask questions later.

But how can this system work? Well in no-loot-losing-upon-death games like...WoW, what else... you grind days, weeks, and months to get an item you want, and never lose it again. Items have high value, and can be overpowered, but lives dont have any value. In FO2238, you can mine/salvage/chopwood/etc for ~20-40 mins and can craft yourself a full set of gear, which is quite balanced. Items have smaller value, and you watch for your life, so that 20-40 mins aint wasted quickly.

It is however very risky profit wise as ripflex pointed out, many casual players get frustrated and quit because they feel their work is gone wasted when a pack of rats kill you easily(xp is not lost upon death tho).
Life in FO2238 is harsh, as everyone there tell you. Low level players get attacked by deathclaws, or high level players act like raiders and shoot everything that moves. Not for the casual scene. Its a working system nontheless, and can be polished to make it more user friendly, like adding lever restrictions for low level players, like not putting a level 1-6 player in a random encounter with 5 lvl 21 dudes armed to the teeth.

Best solution: PvE, and PvP server rulesets. 'nuff said

yeeees you kinda are, pvp is consensual.
so i consent to being ganked on a regular basis if some coward high lvl destroys my face the second i walk out of town b/c he doesnt have the stones to fight people his level? i know for a fact it'll happen b/c it happens in every game with open pvp. then they will gloat like they did something awesome. then they'll take all your stuff which they didnt earn.(it's essentially the same as when a mugger beats up an old lady and takes her purse) lootable corpse would give a reason to the pvp but it shouldn't be all the items on you, otherwise the casual gamers wont want to play. a nice idea about pvp loot would be the following.

players could have x amount of inventory space.

x will contain z and y as sub-invenoties.

so the system is..

people can store items in both places (z, y). only one of them will be lootable though.

so there will be the possibility to keep your most valuable items in bag z for example.

but heres the catch! the non-lootable bag will be kinda small. only a few things will be held in there.

so the player will have no other solution but store most of the items in the lootable section.

concerning money now. it would be a nice idea to work on a percentage loot. for example, if a player gets killed, the winner will be able to loot 5% of the dead guys money.

the lootable bags idea is great,if you're more of a hardcoe gamer and therefore don't mind losing items as much b/c you'll just farm til you get it back anyway. i think instead maybe lose 25% of your cash and maybe a few consumables b/c that would probably be more casual player friendly and the hardcoe guys would still have fun looting bodies(especially if they land a whale:a person with a large amount of cash). In regards to first comment, I have never played a mmo where as soon as I create my character, I get pked. This includes UO which was ffa and full loot. This scenario is just not gonna happen. Best way I have encountered in games was that guards, etc attack a person who tries to attack another in town.

In regards to second comment, consensual pvp makes sense if you are a "good" faction, and 0 sense if "bad" faction. Raiders, Slavers, and evil mercs, don't ask for consent.
