PYFFI Optimized - Increased performance without adding more

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:14 pm

Sorry for the double post but I'm just updating my problem.

Well the install then uninstall with bain totally worked. Your the woman Tomlong. (and orbiter for that last question he answered). Now with this I can put these pyffi optimized files in and tell you if I get any kind of performance boost. Thanks again guys. I didn't want to uninstall before being able to decorate my house with balrog swords B)

"Tomlong" is the name of a character I made in grade school. I have been attached to it ever since.

Okay, I am temporarily linking this thing. It is a MAJOR work in progress, but I might as well let some people see what I am trying to do. If you have any comments, criticisms or amendments, please post here. I will take down this link soon...http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/

Edit: I will be unable to play the game this weekend, so I will work on this project a little instead.

Yup, if it's (almost) crash-free. Right now, the most frequent CTD report hosted is at least 3hours (but that one is down for more testing.) The rest of the load orders are as you see them, practically crash-free. I would like to get more load orders though.

Edit: Also, that location is only temporarily until I find a good space (price-wise.)

Oh, I have to post it. PM it to me with your "crash report." For now, I only want to know what your average random CTD interval is and whether or not you have persistent crashes (and what they are.)

Edit: Also, I am looking for load orders in the Wrye Bash format...If there are not too many plugins, I can convert it myself. I guess I could convert it even if there were many.

Is it supposed to take forever for OBMM to load all the files when making a new meshes BSA with the PyFFI'd stuff?

Dunno. So far it takes usual time(just like when I install big mods like OOO). Though maybe I didn't compress it when I pack it

Okay, what is going on with the PyFFI'd mesh patches? I'm attempting to use the patch applier, but every time I try it, it spews out an error about a checksum for every single entry. I have just the 8 Meshes subfolders, matching that of the patch, and yet it spews out a checksum error for every single one, and nothing comes out into the Optimized folder it creates, just empty directories.

I have the BSA extraction in the Originals folder, and all unnecessary folders cleaned out.

I've made sure twice that all the files from the pack are present.

The number of files in the Patches and Original folders are perfect matches.

What is going wrong?

Maybe the error is about file path being too long? if it is, try to move pyffi'd mesh patch to shorter file path.

BTW, I've had no problems at all from doing the entire weapons folder. Nothing came out screwed up.

I 'd like a confirmation about some creatures... I pyffied the whole creatures folders and saw some problems with goblins, but mudcrabs and rats look ok though. I didn't play long enough to find all creatures. Can anyone tell which creatures are troublesome? Tx.

I'd also like an explanation about the following files that weren't copied to output folder. These are my ini settings:

python_folder = "D:\Programi\Python25\"
skip_armor = 0
skip_weapons = 0
skip_characters = 1
skip_creatures = 1
skip_fx = 1
skip_clothes = 1
size_test = .99
num_core = 4
skip_list = "\landscapewaterfall01", "\landscapewaterfall02", "\landscapewaterfall03", "\landscapewaterfoam01", "\landscapewaterhorizon01", "\landscapewaterhorizon02", "\landscapewaterhorizon03", "\landscapewatervertbot", "\landscapewatervertmid", "\landscapewaterverttop", "helmet", "staff"

and here's a part of a final report:

The numbers at the end of each line represent the size of of a file before and after pyffiing (numbers without empty space must be separeted in the middle).

Why f.e. the underlined beef.nif or clutter\fgc03tankard.nif file isn't copied to the output folder (they are smaller after pyffiing, is the difference too small???) and why aren't the files that actually get bigger after being pyffied copied to the output directory? I guess the data is "more correct" after pyffiing than it was before, but I don't really understand why it gets bigger... Will this be solved in next version? Is there any way to copy unexpectedly skipped files to output folder or is the only way by hand.

Tx.

I think this setting (size_test) in the INI dictates whether or not a file gets copy. Since the PyFFI'd beef mesh was more than 99% as big as the original size, it was skipped. If you want to copy all PyFFI'd files that are smaller than the original no matter how much smaller (even 1 byte), change "size_test" to 1.00.

Also, PyFFI's cleaning process can sometimes make a mesh bigger. The bigger PyFFI'd files are not "more correct" or better than the original smaller mesh. Stick with the original.

Note that, "Optimizing" doesn't same with "Reducing". While some files bigger after pyffi'd it's necessary and infact you still gain fps from bigger optimized meshes.
