PyFFI question

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:02 am

Allright so I'm working a reinstall of Oblivion and I've been PyFFIing all my meshes with v2.1.7.Now I'm wondering since PyFFI is supposed to reduce file size why when I PyFFI some meshes they actually get larger.Example:at this moment I'm PyFFIing the UOP meshes figuing they haven't been done with v2.1.7,and I noticed when I checked the progress;the architecture folder went from 201 mb to 202 mb.I know it's just 1 mb size increase but still.I see that the number of vertices,at least in the UOP meshes don't actually reduce(except a few,so I know it's been done before) just the ATVR(whatever that is)reduces.I'm not sweatin it,am curious since I noticed it when I PyFFI'ed the DLC's(I forget which ones I noticed an increase in file size to).

Edit:It just finished the UOP meshes.Original size:270 MB new size:273 MB.

That's the nature of PyFFI. File size will go up for some files. They are still being optimized though, so it's all good.

PyFFI switched from Stripification (optimize and reduce meshes) to Triangulation (optimize meshes and possibly reduce or increase their size) in 2.1.6. This is normal behavior.

Cool thanks for the quick responses.I noticed a definate improvement with just my vanilla meshes done,so I was just wondering. As long as they're still being optimized,I'm happy.
