Qarl TP3 + enbseries = slow performance on good PC

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:39 pm

Hey guys I need a bit of help trying to balance performance and graphics quality in Oblivion.

At the moment im only using Qarls texture pack 3 and enbseries to enhance the graphics.
But the ENB mod really kills my performance and FPS drops bad.

ENB OFF:
Standard oblivion, dull colours. 62fps

ENB ON:
Really vibrant and colourfull (i did only increase the ColorSaturationDay and GammaCurveDay to make it more greener) - 31fps

So you can see how much better and vibrant it looks but the FPS drop is crazy.
In the cities I get around 12fps with it on.

I was supprised because I have a pretty good PC:

core i7 920 CPU
5850 3dcard
6gig ram
Windows 7

But then I do have every graphics settings on Max for like grass distance etc....

Basicly I just want oblivion to look really colourful like in the ENB on pic above.
Could I somehow strip out everything in the ENBseries.ini to only make it change the colours? No motion blur, AA, AF etc...?
Or is there another mod to get it lookling that colourful and vibrant?

Thanks

This got buried three pages back, so I thought I would give it a friendly nudge to the front page. :)

If all you want to do is change colours, you can use OGE's shaders to do that, and you'll see virtually no performance hit if you just use the simple colour ones.

Then again, that does mean that you lose AA, since it's incompatible with OGE.

I would recommend against ENB and point you towards ScreenEffects. It allows you to adjust saturation and has some nifty other tricks as well. And it won't break AA like the new OGE.

It will if you use the new OBGEv2 plugin. And the old one has bugs that causes crashes. And the test fix for that causes load screens to break. So there's a loss no matter what you choose. The OP mentioned no AA, so that's why I suggested it.

Just to be sure I understood correctly - If I am using Screen Effects, I should update it with OBGEv2 to improve reliability? Never noriced that it had included an OBGE dll before.

OBGEv2 is still in beta, so whether or not you switch to it is up to you - it seems to have fixed the crashing, but there's always the possibility of new bugs.

Thanks - do you think I should update with OBGE v0.1 Debugged or will I be better off with v2?

Personally, I would go with OBGEv2, since I haven't had any problems with it, and it is being worked on. That, and I am a member of the OGE project, and the stuff I'm working on needs it.

You can try out both though, and decide which you feel is better. You might want to wait for the next release for OBGEv2 though, since ATM to get it working with OBGE mods you've got to alter their shader files, but that's been changed for the next version so that you don't.
