QTP3 recommended?

I'm going to be installing MMM some time soon and I'm growing increasingly terrified of the performance hit I'm going to get. So, with additional actors and creatures AI and stuff, is that all basically CPU limited? Or is the Oblivion engine so clunky that even a major CPU upgrade won't see much improvement?

Well, it will if CPU performance is you're bottleneck. The hit from MMM can easily be dealt with by using one of the spawn rate reducing plug-ins that come with the mod.

If I can play FCOM+ on my steampowered rig, you should be fine with MMM. But, yes, w/o the optional reduced spawn rate plugins I probably couldn't.

Yay, that's what I was hoping after reading the MMM readme. I've been wondering for a while how CPU limited my game has been, since it seems when I disable stuff like MSAA and OBGEv2 shaders the increase in framerate is usually quite small. So I am thinking the hundred some mods I've got enabled might add up with their various scripts and bog down my machine. I unlocked the fourth core on my Phenom2 x3 710 and saw no improvement but I imagine Oblivion's lack of multi-core support means that's to be expected. I think my CPU's fairly well-matched with my 4850 1gb so if I upgrade in the near future I'd probably do both.

Dammit, I just have to ask this because it happened again--does the forum log anyone else out at seemingly random times? It happens an hour after I log in, while in the middle of typing a reply, and pretty much at any time it feels like doing it. Days can pass without it happening but then it can do it repeatedly in a single day. It drives me crazy sometimes!

YES! this has happened to me quite a few times and is very annoying, it sometimes causes IE to stop responding. But like you say it can go days without doing it then multiple times in one day! Anyway back on topic, im now annoyed at QTP3 before ive even installed it! im using the planet elder scrolls link and their file planet or whatever its called download manager, got to about 1.1gb went to resume the next day (yes i paused it before shutdown) and it says "network error cannot find file info"!!!!! :swear: :shocking: :gun: now have to start it again!! i thought the whole point of DM's was to RESUME when you want! :brokencomputer:

Sorry to bring up my own topic. but after a long wait i got my pc replaced and now have to install oblivion again along with QTP3 (which i never got to installing). So if i install it and then find for whatever reason it is very slow or doesnt run well, can i simply deactivate it via obmm or does it overwrite key texture files which means i would need to install the whole game again?

The vanilla resources are packed in BSA's so you run no risk of overwriting textures etc. I'd really recommend using BAIN for replacer installs as you get much better control over it than with OBMM - but the latter works as well of course.

im currently get about 50- 60 fps outside on average and about 70 in cities/buildings etc on max settings, so if i get about 40 fps with this i'll be happy.

You won't have any problems with your rig, the frame rate drop isn't really all that severe. You'll probably end up with a bit more than 40 FPS, maybe 45 - 55. The biggest problem with QTP3 is stuttering due to texture swapping, but since you have 3 gig of VRAM, that won't be much of an issue.

This, sort of. Many people have noted that an upgrade in equipment didn't translate to an increase in performance. There's a peak you can reach and any gear you toss at the game after that point won't matter. Your video card is probably past it already, though I'm not sure about your CPU. I don't really know where that peak is in terms of equipment, just that it exists.

Yes, it's been happening to me alot lately as well. Sometimes I have to sign in 3 times in a day. It's really annoying and I wish it would stop.

I brought this up in the fcom thread I installed quarls once.before, but never adjusted archive invalidation and didn't notice as nice of textures, but this time I installed it and altered the archive invalidation then changed it back to defaults but the texture pack is more noticeable this time around yet I'm not sure why

i believe you are actually right but i also believe that the configuartion in my particular type of computer uses two gt 445 cards or memory modules (idk which) to get the 3g vram.

As I understand it, the VRAM in a dual card system doesn't stack, it will use either one or the other, not both together. It was something I read somewhere so I don't know how accurate the info is. Still though, 1.5 gig is good enough for QTP3. I once used it with a card that only had 512 meg and it worked just fine, aside from frequent stuttering. That extra gig will make a big difference with that though. Keep in mind that when those textures were designed, 512 was the most you could get in a video card.

Yeah i guess it must be just 1 card then heres a screen shot with gpu z and the nvidia control panel

WOW, installed QTP3 and am impressed, it finishes off the game nicely and best of all my fps is barely effected if at all! i have OOO, QTP3, AWLS and a lot of other mods installed and i am still getting a decent 60fps inside city walls and an avergae of about 50-60 outside. So thanks for suggesting it everyone and thanks to Quarl of course for the awesome work.
