First of all, I know that it has basically been confirmed by iD that the Quake 1 and 2 universes have nothing to do with one another. However, I don't believe that's any fun at all, so I'll obviously be linking the two, drastically different story lines together. i will also be writing this assuming the reader knows all about the Quake universe already, and if you don't I would suggest browsing the wiki for a bit before reading this as you may be confused. This also has nothing to do with the iD theory.
IMPORTANT POINTS
- SlipGates are gateways to parallel dimensions. The only two games that SlipGates make an appearance in are Q1 and ET:QW, which will furth prove my main points.
- This theory does not link Quake 3.
- There are 3 parallel dimensions visited in the Quake series, The Strogg Dimension(Q2/Q4), The Human Dimension(ET:QW), and Quake's Dimension(Q1)
- The Strogg are humans with a different history from our humans.
- The humans that eventually became the Strogg will be called "Stumans" for comedic effect.
- Stumans are humans in an alternate dimension/timeline
- I am proposing that Quake's storyline is essentially a time paradox
PART 1
The Stumans develop SlipGates as a form of teleportation and accidentally discover Quake's Dimension, a dimension that seems to have replaced modern technology with magic, with the exception of a few cyborg-like monsters. Quake, (the formless entity that controls all life in this dimension,) and its generals attack the Stumans, but are ultimately fought off by the lone protagonist, Ranger. In the aftermath of this attack, the cyborg enhancements of some of Quake's monsters inspire Stuman researchers to pursue cyborg enhancement technology.
PART 2
Cyborg enhanced Stumans form an alliance called the Strogg and start a campaign against the rest of the planet. The leaders of the Strogg force those they conquer to revive enhancements and fight for them. Eventually the Strogg take over the whole planet. Eager to expand outside of their planet, the Strogg begin researching teleportation again and come up with multiple methods, including a Black Hole Generator among others, and the Strogg begin assimilating life on other planets into their ranks. At the same time, SlipGates are researched again to possibly assimilate the monsters from Quake's Dimension. Instead, the Strogg discover the human dimension.
PART 3
The Strogg attack Earth by sending their fleet through a massive SlipGate, but are ultimately forced to retreat, despite their massive numbers. By reverse engineering a SlipGate, humans are able to follow the Strogg back to their homeworld and attack them. The events of Quake 2 and 4 take place and by the end of it all, the Strogg all but defeated. As a last resort, the remaining Strogg forces retreat into Quake's dimension, where they assume the humans wont follow.
PART 4
The Strogg attempt to take over Quake's dimension, but Quake and its minions retaliate. Many of Quake's minions are given robotic enhancements by the Strogg in an attempt to assimilate them, but Quake's powers win over the mind controlling technology of the Strogg. After much fighting, muck of Quake's dimension is in ruins, though the Strogg are close to defeat. In an effort to reset the events, Quake combines magic with Strogg technology to create the "Temporal Energy Converter," which Quake uses to travel back in time to end the Strogg before they became what they are.
From here, Part 1 begins again and the story cycles. A few liberties were taken to create a cohesive story, but everything in this theory is grounded withing the games in one way or another.
If I messed up somewhere in this Theory, please let me know, I'm curious what everyone thinks of this.
