Quantity of monsters ~20 ? Disappointed

Post » Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:08 pm

I have been playing for 10 hours so long. And the lands looked empty to me, so I decided to do a few searches.
You do not ever meet more than 4-5 monsters at time, and this is so bad. But there is more.

List of monsters:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Creatures

Ok, do not count fauna please and humans.
What? About 20 monsters? YEP.

SOOO WAY DISAPPOINTED.

Look at Might and magic VI for example:
http://www.the-spoiler.com/RPG/New.World.Computing/might..magic.6.1/mm6.html#tm

Sub included, you have more than 200 kinds of monsters!!!

Damn, please, you could vary in size, gradients, colors, but not so few!!!
I am very disappointed...

I'm not looking at that list due to spoilers but there seems far more than 20 to me and I haven't really got that far.

Well considering Skyrim has 35 types (without going into subclasses or variations) of hostile creatures/npc types versus Oblivion's 31.

However the enemies are far more interesting to deal with and have much more varied and organic feeling structure and behaviour. I'll take that over a massive variety any day.

Wow wtf? I think I've seen everything already. And no Lichs? No Daedra?

Wtf were they doing during development?

Quality over quantity......

WHAT quality? They all fight the same... You just run up and beat the crap out of them til they die.

Aren't most of those M&M creatures just recolours of other creatures?

Normally I'd agree with this, but sometimes quantity can be so low that even great quality doesn't save it. Such is almost the case with Skyrim. I've seen all the creatures on the OP's list and even on the fourth or fifth day since release, they're starting to get a bit stale. There's tons and tons of PLACES to visit, which is great. But there's not an equally suitable number of beasties to match the level of geographical diversity.

There is nothing like a DLC or 2 that will boost the quantity of enemies and friendlies, new races, etc. OR MODS!

I do not care, there seem to be alot of NPCs out there.

Pacman had 1 enemy type, didn't stop it selling like it did...Seems quantity doesn't make a great game. Stick with that logic.

Yes, the Place is AMAZING and deserves some unique creatures. A Swamp Troll by Morthal and Eastmarch would have been great (And scary)

45 Enemies, some of them are hostile, some of them are not.

Edit: Also would like to point out, that there are different variations for some enemies.

Edit again: Also would like to point out, like some of above me, that those monsters are not all of them, what are in Skyrim.

so like Morrowind and Oblivion.

And I wouldn't trust that showing every creature in the game, as that page is written by observation and as far as I know the CK is not out yet...

Can't wait till all the naysayers and haters head off to something else. Loving the game. And I'll tell you what, bandit with 2hander fights a lot differently than bandit with bow, or bandit with magic. All of that requires me to adjust tactics and fighting styles.

And then you could break it down to, do they have an enchanted weapon, are they ice/fire/conjurers, do they notice stealth very well, is it part of a group, etc. If I look at the game from a Dungeons and Dragons DM viewpoint, they did an amazing job creating unique and varied encounters that involve various mobs, terrain and spell effect all working in conjunction and it's glorious!

Yes, there's plenty of unique creatures not in that list. Case in point Spectrals are one of the creatures I've come across previous that aren't on there.

That list is definitely incomplete. I've encountered both Dremora Kynreeve and Dremora Churls.

i agree, there needs to be more. also, orcs.. need to be orcs. they should have different bodies to men but they dont, just different heads. they should be about 1.5x the size of a man and twice as wide, half as smart.

I think they mean particular servants to Daedra ie. Lessers like Winged Twilights, Scamps, Daedroths, Golden Saints, Spider Daedra and such. Atronachs are not aligned to any one God in particular.

If this is true actually, I shall be quite disappointed. Lesser Daedra are like the back bone of Elder scrolls monsters. Always have been.

Don't worry about it - the PC modding community will sort this out in time just like they did with oblivion.

There was a fantastic mod for it called martigen's monster mod that added tons of new creatures, and completly overhauled how they interact with the world. Couldnt play standard oblivion again after experiencing it.

I'n time, something similar will crop up for Skyrim, just have to wait it out.

If you count sub-types, there are 47 varieties of aggressive, dangerous animals (didn't count the non-aggressive ones, only things like wolves, bears, and sabre cats) and monsters. That's not counting anything that's technically an NPC including vampires... if you add every human enemy type and variation in you've got a very large number of different types of enemies.

Could there be more? Yes. Are there enough to be reasonable and realistic? Yes.

Also, to answer some points from one poster above there are a minimal amount of Daedra to be found in the game (Only Dremora as far as I've seen), but as I understand the purpose of the plot of Oblivion they should have become much rarer afterwards, so that makes sense. And aren't the Dragon Priests basically Liches?
