Quantum Question

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2010 4:26 pm

I recently descovered the quest in witch the crazy lady addicted to nuka cola wants you to bring her nuka cola quantum. The thing is, I love explosives. Nuka grenades are my friends. As you all will know, Quantum is an ingredient in making nuka grenades. From what I can tell there is a somewhat limited suply of the stuff in the game so my question is this:

Considering how much I love nuka grenades is it worth it to give the nuka cola quantum to the quest or should I use it myself to make grenades?

I would say no, all you get from her is schematics for Nuka Grenades and a Mississippi Quantom Pie.

If you are on PC you can use console commands to steal the quantums back (the fridge is locked and requires console to unlock it).

You do get 3,500 Caps for turning in 59 Quantums to both of them, if you turn 29 into Laren you'll get 2320 caps, 1160 caps with Sierra, and if you have broken steel you can get the quantum perk which when you have 10 nuka cola's in your inventory they get converted into 1 Nuka Cola Quantum

I always do the quest, as I treat it as a background quest, kinda like the nirnroot quest in Oblivion. Then I take a massive karma hit when I uh.... abscond with all of her colas. Then I wait until I find all schematics, get the Quantum Chemist perk (frankly, the only perk that BS added that is any good) and start making. Vendors carry one or two colas in their inventory every three days. And at 100 in Explosives and three ranks of Demolition Expert, nuka grenades do 500+ damage.

30 Quantums is (with all schematics), 90 Nuka Grenades. I make ample use of other nade types, keeping the Nukas for big game, like Reavers, multiple mirelurk kings, etc, in addition to being a Hail Mary if Jericho and I are about to be overwhelmed or dead. I never use them for Deathclaws, as they have become easy kills with just a dart gun and even a Chinese pistol if you so desire.

I guess it depends on if you use Nuka Grenades exclusively. I help her out, even with my evil characters, in the hopes that I can harvest her bean field too. Then when spurned, I take the cola. At least that's how it rolled with my current character.

You can store nuka colas in the ice cold fridge without them turning ice cold. But you have to look at the options carefully when accessing the unit. You could accidentally turn everything ice cold. Make a save before accessing the machine, and choose the second option, to access the fridge without turning anything ice cold. Or, store all important ingredients in your normal fridge.

Actually, Nuka grenades aren't affected by the Demolition Expert perk unless you've modded. No boost from Demollition Expert nor Pyromaniac Expert--ugh!!! :banghead:

30 Nuka-Cola Quantams seem like quite a sacrifice. However, if you account the schematic reward, you'll still be able to make 1 grenade than you previously have. So, rather than losing 30 potential Nuka-Cola grenades, you'll only have lost 20 potential grenades.

I highly recommend you grab the Quantum Chemist perk at level 22 (requires Science 70) if you've Broken Steel.

A schematic that allows you to create twice the number of grenades you could before, or 1/3 more if you already have 2 of them. How is that not worth it? It's the only way you can ever hope to get all three of the Nuka-Grenade schematics, so of course it's worthwhile. I save up all my Quantums until I do that quest before I ever start making any grenades, since by that point I can make 2 at once.

with BS yea its worth it. I currently, after finishing the quest 78 quantums, 230 nukas( that im stockpiling) and 60 grenades with all 3 schematics. Without it, not really unless your lucky on finding quantums.
