Query on what you folks on PC use for a controller

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:44 am

Hi folks:

For all you folks (like me) who play Skyrim on a PC, I'm curious if you play the game and are content to play it with your mouse and keyboard... or if you use some other type of game controller / joystick that makes playing the game a bit easier.

I'm asking because though I have no real issues with using the mouse (and KB) during regular gameplay.. at times it's a bit of a pain to scroll with - espescially in fights when you're trying to turn and look up or around. .. just seeing what other folks use or recommend.

wired 360 (w/ hotkey mod)

eta: you asked why: the m/k combo just doesn't feel right for this console-centric title. and after the witcher(s), the controller just somehow seemed the route to take. all prior TES games were m/k for me.

I still use mouse and keyboard. I always play first person and I personally enjoy the UI. It is for the most part very sleek and easy to use. For example I like being able to control my menus with keys and also have the option of using a cursor. It does need some bug fixing but its minor. Like when the mouse scrolling appears to freeze up and you can only use keys. This happens in dialogue menus sometimes too.

But yeah, mouse and keyboard. It's old school and all that.

I find controllers extremely limiting. I can't imagine anyone who has developed the ability to fully utilize a mouse and keyboard combination would ever willingly choose to use a controller.

For Skyrim, I think I would be frustrated by now if I had to open up a menu every time I needed to change to a new spell or weapon.

Wireless 360 controller. A wireless receiver is about 15 bucks on amazon.com. An anolog joystick let's you move at all kinds of speeds with smooth an natural animations for your walking, my horse can trot or gallop or canter. With a keyboard you're stuck with only 1 super slow walk, 1 run, and 1 sprint.

If it weren't for the UI, using a controller on a PC would just be [censored].

Because I've heard the numerous complaints about the obviously-console-developed UI, I decided to use a Logitech USB Controller. Unfortunately for me, it's now extremely difficult to switch out back to the keyboard.

I just hit the d-pad... or the combination RB + d-pad... not really frustrating at all.
