Quest Compass

I've been wondering for a while whether you will be able to toggle the quest compass in NV. Has anyone read or heard anything about it?

I doubt Obsidian would change that feature.

Obsidian... If you don't have a toggle option for it you better prepare it for a patch.
I absolutely hated the big arrow on my compass and map.
I'd like to find the quest objective myself thank you, and not have the game hold my hand.
I'm not 7... I know how to find stuff on my own.

I hope it isn't in every quest. Or ,even better, in no quest a t all. hardcoe mode should disable it :P
How long does it take for someone to mod and get rid of the arrows?

I liked the quest arrows.... Never bothered me to have them, sometimes I would complete other quests without setting them as my active quest and then there was no arrow...

This. It annoyed me in Fallout 3, Oblivion, and countless other games. I mean the quest arrow in bioshock was optional, and yes I know that game isn't a huge open world game like this. The feature itself shouldn't be to hard to add though.

God no.

I love my quest arrows.

I would go slightly insane without them.

I hope you are able to toggle the quest marker.

In Fallout 3 the quest markers were neccessary with the train tunnels, but with no tunnels (I'm assuming no tunnels, or very little anyways) and the new hard core mode I'd like the quest marker to be off. As long as the NPC's give semi adequate directions on how to get there.

What I would like is if there was an option in the options menu whether you would want it enabled or disabled. Simply because there are times where I want to find said goal on my own and there are times when I'm incredibly frustrated and need the quest compass temporarily.

Agreed

I like the challenge of having to find things on my own, I loved that about Morrowind.

Well, why not make the quest inactive and have no active quest on? I thought that would be pretty obvious...

So I should have to deactivate a quest just cause I want the game to not hold my hand?
Great design!
Next up, "you don't want a compass, just disable the entire HUD.".

No, de-activating the quest is not the solution.
I should be able to have a quest activated without it giving me a big pointy arrow like I'm some thick person who can't focus too long because of shiny things.

And I don't think it's hard for them to code either.
Anyone here made a mod for it?
How complicated was it?

In fact, we should be able to remove quest arrows, compass, health bar, VATS bar, ammo and CND bar respectively.
So that if I want to play with everything else on but have the VATS bar gone I should be able to.

I don't think it's hard for them to code and it would be a simple matter of toggling them on or off in the menu for us.

Umm, you can deactivate the whole hud, which includes life bar compass ammo and everyhting in Fallout 3. Just set the hud to fully transperant.... :whistling:

So optional features are okay when you suggest them, but not when it's a solution someone else offers?
In the big scheme of things how is this much different than the toggles you suggested?
Why should I havta interface my own preferences with the game? It should be able to read my mind and make the changes by itself.

I meant taking away parts of the HUD, not the entire HUD.
Like say I want to play with the entire HUD except for the compass and health bar. (For more realistic combat and navigation)
Or maybe I want to play with the entire HUD but without the CND. (So that I don't know how long it's gonna be until my weapon break)

So optional features are okay when you suggest them, but not when it's a solution someone else offers?

I don't remember fallout 3 too well with it's quest thingies.
Like, when the objective pops up for a couple seconds on the top... right? of the screen.
And stuff like that.
Anyway, I don't remember most of them, IIRC when I don't have a quest active nothing pops up on the side.
Or when I select another quest to point me in the wrong direction, I somehow magnetically draw my attention to the arrow like a moth to bright light.
I guess I'm over reacting.
Still, I don't think it's hard for them to do, and it doesn't hurt anyone to have the option to toggle it off. (Not like it's a huge time-sink to create this feature, at least I don't think so...)

I don't think that's what he was trying to imply...just sayin

Personally I thought it wasn't really a good "solution"

I think quest compass should just point you in the general direction instead of pinpointing the exact location as if it was being tracked on a gps device.

I personally think it's a great idea for people who really want the most challenge out of the game. The quest marker was helpful in Fallout3 to give you a general direction, but sometimes if you were in the metro, or any other indoor locale, it was hard to trace a route to where you really needed to go. A couple of examples are trying to find the card catalogue in the library and getting to the roof in the Reilly's Rangers quest. The quest marker on the compass damn near led me around in circles.
In short, It's a great idea to toggle it on or off.

As long as they don't put in the 'magic trails' that Fable 2 had, I'm cool. I can always ignore the arrow.

I like the compass. It keeps me from getting lost and there is nothing more embarrassing than being lost in a game. I use a compass when I walk in the woods and I use a compass in the wastelands of Fallout now. I love gadgets. :P

Breadcrumbs.
Never heard Hans And Greta?
The story about two children who (idunno) were thrown out of home or something and told to live elsewhere, and when they left the house one of them started leaving breadcrumbs along the way, they found a house where a witch lived, they were enslaved by her, Greta had to work while the witch fed Hans up until he was fat enough to eat, but they killed her and then followed the breadcrumbs home.

One thing that bothered me with that story was that: How in the hell were the breadcrumbs left on the road? I mean, bird? Rodents? Wind? Bugs? Rain? Plot hole is plot hole.

I feel and did exactly the same.
Just to pose the question, did having the arrow really hurt the experience, and if so, how much did it affect it?
I ask mainly because I just can't tell from my viewpoint.

IMO, it felt like the game didn't take me seriously. It felt like it had to hold my hand, like If I was a 5 year old.
Pissed me off.
