Quest Failure

Post » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:01 am

Hi, I've managed to fail a quest because I killed some guys that were shown as enemies. I understand the faction system and I know why they didn't like me (because I did a quest which involved killing some of the faction) but what I would like to know is - is it possible to not fail any quests because of factions? I was planning to do all the quests as a bad character and then replay as a good character but is that possible? Once you upset a faction do you immediately cut off some of the quests on the game? Thanks.

I think the system is what gives the game its replay value. In FO3 you played as good and then replayed as evil. In FONV, you can replay two times for each faction. Fun, fun, fun!

I was actually wondering the same thing. I personally think it's a load of crap..say what you will. I feel like I'm stuck because no matter what I do in the main quest, the NCR still seems to hate me. ...I've gotten a couple of "failed quest" and had to go back and replay...it's just so much of a hassle...very frustrating, I just don't find it fun, not enjoyable.

I agree, in a way. I don't have a problem with it really, I just want to know if I screwed my game up or if it doesn't really matter because it can't be avoided?

I don't mind it as an option but I would have liked to be able to do ALL the quests with 1 character if I want to. And it shouldn't be difficult to do that. It's a bit 50/50 for me.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time deciding whether this is good or not.

I killed Eddie or whatever his name was, because he was an enemy. Instant quest fail.

I mean, it makes sense, I just didn't like the harshness of failing a quest I hadn't even started. Plus, then it doesn't even show up in your Pip-Boy, so it's like, what was that?

I kinda like that you fail quests if you choose the one faction over another. Gives more weight to your decisions IMO.

Yeah, I think it was Eddie that I killed too. It seems like it's unavoidable. Shame because it leaves you with a lot less to do with each character.

The game is meant for it's replayability.
Start a second character and do the rest of the quests.

Yeah, I get that but it's kinda annoying when you don't even know you're going to fail something until it's happened. It wasn't needed on FO3 to make me want to play again so I'm just not sure it's necessary. But like I said, it's not that bad, I just wanted to check if I had messed it up or not. Clearly it's meant to be that way though. Loving the game so far anyway!

I don't really like that the game says I failed the quest if I never accepted it though.
Pisses the hell out of me because now I know who from the NCR will give me quests when I side with them on the next playthrough. >_<

Good point. Atleast it doesn't tell you what the quest involved though I guess :P

I agree that is super annoying. I don't mind failing quests because of my decisions and who I side with, but I hate being told I failed quests that I know nothing about or haven't accepted. In my opinion this needs to be patched. Don't show me fail messages for a quest if it wasn't on my Pipboy!
