Quest given but not paid for problem

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:55 pm

I have done a quest for my Mage Guild to get snake venom, got it back with two days to spare, but when I clicked on the quest giver it just went to the conversation screen. I looked in my Log and the quest was still there. I took another quest to swap a parchment and came back. As I entered Daggerfall the game told me this was the last day for the Mages Guild Quest and that the quest giver would 'probably' be disappointed. I then went to the Mages Guild, clicked on TALK and got given another quest! I said 'no' and then looked in my log and the quest had gone. I then went to the store to get paid for the parchment swapping clicked on TALK and got no response!

I am still at the start of the game, having just seen the Blades Agent who tells you to check various cities. I did go up a level to level 2 while on the Mages Guild quest.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? Am I going to have to reinstall and start again?!

I know it's buggy from a crashing point of view, but not a quest point of view....!

The Elder Scrolls Wiki (UESP: Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) has an ongoing project to fix as many of the bugged quests as they can manage. If you go there and check their Daggerfall files area, you'll see a quest pack for download with many, many bug fixes for quests of every faction, as well as a list of which quests are in the package (and what needed to be fixed). I don't know specifically if the quest you need is in the pack, but it's worth a look. However, since the quests are stored in your save game once you start it, even if you patch that quest it won't correct the one you're on now, only future times you accept the quest. Some of the quests they patched are main quest bugs that need to be started from the beginning of character creation. Still, I've found that having many more of the quests working properly-- and many bug-free for the first time ever-- worth the trouble. Give it a look; it may be exactly what you need. There's also several packages of third-party quests made for the game, to add even more things to do.

I have downloaded the various mods, but haven't seen any load order, maybe if you install them ibn the wrong order this sort of thing happens? I know after the CompUSA patch you have to re-install the DAG213 patch, for example.
