Quest location solved, even with quest markers disabled

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:25 am

Hi. Hopefully this hasn't been posted 1000 times already.

For immersion reasons, I have the following settings:

- No quest markers on compass, on map or floating
- No locations or enemies on compass
- In game map is allowed
- No fast travel

Compared with previous games, it is difficult to find some quests, given that there are no clear descriptions. Here is how I have managed to find all quest locations, despite the above UI restrictions:

Go to Journal. Klick on a given quest so that it is active and make sure only one quest is selected. Within the journal screen, push M for map. When the map shows up, it automatically centers on the quest location of that selected quest. Set your own flag or just remember the location. Presto....you know where to go, even without quest markers or quest descriptions.
So far this has worked for all quests I've tried. Disabling the above features really adds much much more fun to the game and still allows you to find all quests.

I encourage everyone to try this.

Yep I do this too. It adds a lot to a game that otherwise doesn't have too much exploration/finding.

Heya, I can turn of my compass completely via console but I'd like the N/S/E/W still.

How do you turn off all locations and enemies but keep the compass directions?

There is a good mod, which I use called hardcoe Compass Mod. I use Variant 3. Check it out at skyrimnexus:

I don't know if it's possible, not without access to more than the ini file anyway. I can only suggest learning how to tell the direction via either map or by looking at shadows and the time of day, or the stars.

that doesnt really solve the problem... you're still only capable of a precise beeline to the location, the only difference is that you maybe have to re-check the map again and you actually have to be nearby before the exact location shows up on the compass (on consoles you cant disable those markers on the compass, only the whole damn hud). you may not see a physical pointer, but your still being guided solely by the invisible hand of the gods...

a nice alternative if your on the PC... but it cant fix a non-existent navigation system :sadvaultboy: .

Thank you so much! I rarely even do quests so markers aren't an issue.

Cheers.

I agree with you, quest descriptions would be far better. I think this will be modded for PC users at least. Until that happens, I still think its best to shut-down the markers, limit the compass and cut fast travel. I find myself 100% more immersed in the land and unexpected discoveries doubled too. Only thing I'm saying in OP is that you can still find quest locations for practically all quests with handholding features turned off.
