Quest markers show not only on the compass, but in the actua

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:25 am

Are you sure? Why was there no marker over Arvel's head in the demo? The claw was part of a quest.

Yes I'm sure.
In the demo, I think the claw quest wasn't an objective, and the quest Arvel helped the player with in this video was probably not the claw quest, since he directed you to Whiterun.

The dumb get dumber.

Yeah, because having to walk up to everyone to see their name requires intelligence, right?

Whilst that is something I personally don't like, I can see how it could help a lot of players that just want to get through quests quickly rather than run around looking for some someone as though it was real life. The most important thing is that It can be turned of for those that don't want it. I'm in favour of developers giving players choice when it is suitable to do so in their audience approach a game, because we don't all like the same things.

Oh and it has been confirmed that you can turn on and off as many quest markers as you want

Source that we can turn off "as many quest markers as you want"? I know they talked about one type in particular, but wasn't aware of a comment mentioning all types of markers.

OK, but shouldn't Alvor have had one in the demo as well? I mean, from the sounds of it, he's essential to the MQ.

Well to me its like this
1. I can see it being immersion breaking
2. It does make more sence to have the marker visibly on them though b/c in oblivion u would be running through town staring at the compass to narrow down that marker locale
If the item was on the ground then u would needlessly waste time running around it
This helps the majority of the people to find what they need to do
Im inbetween about this cuz sometimes i got headaches looking for the quest marker person in oblivion...only to realize they were above me on the second floor
(leyawin houses anyone?)

Also im glad i have the option to turn it on/off
Because i know i will definately switch it on when i need to look for somebody in a house with more than 1 level to it lol

Interacting with people in a normal manner? *gasp!* Can't have that, people must be able to get right to their quest objectives ASAP, no delay, hurry, hurry! No waste time chatting with people to find your target like a normal person, there's the target right there, go get 'im!

Lot of sarcasm on this thread, but whatever.

I won't turn on such "quest giver markers" (if they exist) until the end of the game, when I'm sifting through every bar and tavern looking for someone else to give me odd jobs.

I'm sure they didn't let you turn "quest destination markers" off and at the same time removed all other ways to find your destination. Would defeat the purpose.

Alvor does have one in the TGS gameplayvids.

Well, it doesn't bother me. In Dragon Age: Origins there was something like this. If anything, it will serve me to save some time. And if it doesn't like mt, I'll turn it off.

So, honestly, I don't see much of an "OMG, WORLD ENDING" change here. Minor difference in the "markers on" case, no difference in the "markers off" case.

It's not really the change itself that bothers us, it's the message Bethesda sends us by that. "We're not going to stop hand holding, we're going to keep putting even more and more of that in our games. PS. We really think our players are getting dumber and dumber by the minute."

I don't really see that message. It's exactly like it was in Oblivion...

No markers above the head from people who give quests i dont think.

Just a marker over your quest objectives head seen so far.

Or maybe they're trying to reach a wider audience and want to give people the option to have things be a little easier in terms of finding people.

Honestly, the ridiculous things that people get up in arms about...

Let's be serious...
Isn't one quest marker enough on the screen? I thought it would be very sufficient to have it on the compass. No need to have it on the compass as well as in the actual world.
A quest marker on the compass gets the job done, without feeling more like an MMO (in that specific sense, and in my opinion).

I wonder if quest markers are above important quest items as well, like light bulbs...

maybe its a clairvoyance spell effect !!!

I like your optimism :D

It would be fine if there wasn't like 1001 ways to find your way through a quest that would be my main problem with it if we couldn't turn it off. ( I should say I'm not a picky person only other thing I have a problem with is enchanting/poisoning bows being ridiculous)

No way! The cool thing was to discover a new quest accidentally.. And if there will be such MMO-style markers...i don't know, it ruins the game for me.
Hope it'll be optional, or i'll just wait for a mod.

I was on the fence about waiting for mods. But since I preordered already at a good price, I will have to let my copy of Skyrim gather dust because of this and wait for mods. There is just too much hand holding going on here. If it is not removing attributes, its forced 3rd person animations, and if not that we have quest markers.

How can this game be rated Mature and yet is 'dumbed down' for a 6th grader?

If we can turn them off fine. I don't care about the markers on the map, but here we have this beautiful realistic looking world, and somebody's going to have an arrow floating over their head? God, I hope not.

Because the developers don't look at it the way that you do?

(And "Mature" means something completely different?)

No. It's like complaining of how you could (hypothetically) see the health bar above all enemies' heads.

I would hate that, just as much as I hate this. It feels very "MMO"-like to me.

I dislike it very much, as well as the ennemy markers. I hope it'll be possible to remove them in the difficulty settings.

I love the clairvoyance spell since it has a cost and is integrated within the game universe, and those markers aren't at all.
