Quest Markers

I'd definitely like to have a quest marker, though it would probably feel a little more rewarding to complete a quest if the marker only showed me the general area. I'd also support an on/off option. Options are always nice to have.

Not a big fan of them. Kinda removes the challenge and satisfaction of figuring things out on your own.

A simple on/off for quest markers does not resolve this. Care and even cleverness should be a part of the writing of the quests as well as a functional journal. I have no issue with an NPC marking an area on my map, but there is no global positioning satellites in the time of Skyrim and I do not want the benefit of one in my game.

If I'm told that the person I need to see leaves every Loredas morning from Imperial City and heads to Fort Nikel then I find it fun to divine a plan to intercept this person using logic and reason. Forgive my lack of "care and cleverness" in my example, but you get the point. I don't want a moving green pointer any where on my screen.

I understand that not everyone enjoys a game in the same way that I do, so rather than frustrate a player that finds no pleasure in figuring it out... an on/off is a must, just don't let the quest writing suffer because of it.

A bit off topic, but it occurred to me that if the devs have gone all detailed in the sky and have stars in fixed/cycling position, what a device this could be in quests. Remember that quest where you got a clue from the statue at noon? Couldn't you see using a structure like Stonehenge and the star positions as a step in a quest?

We may all wish for quest markers to be removed from the game, but there is virtually no chance of this. The best that can be hoped for is a toggle to switch the off. As pointed out, the game has to cater for more casual players as well as the hardcoe fans. Personally I agree that the 'GPS' type made things a bit too easy.

A quick story. I am playing FFXIV currently and there are no quest markers, when hunting for monsters or a gathering site or something there is a yellow circle with the rough area you should be looking in (which can be confusing as the target could be below or above you which may explain why you couldn't see it). NPC's and places appear as a green dot when you click on the 'map' button on your journal and some NPC's have to be hunted for. You wouldn't believe the quantity of complaints about how difficult it all was.

Morale, most people want an easy game and Bethesda would be stupid to cater for those like us who want to think about things. We are in the vast minority.

There should be some help. The helper must not pinpoint the quest target.

What I can suggest is a circle around the general target area or show the area via an arrow which will disappear when approached the target area. The player really should do something to reach the goal.

And I agree, people should be able to turn this on and off.

Get rid of nasty questmarkerses and give good (and correct) directions and hints in the quest log instead. 'Tis what I'd prefer.

No quest marker please, so no on/off option.

I want to find the way myself with a general direction of where to go, much like Morrowind.
This feels more immersive and compliments the exploration aspect of the game world very well... and just finding the place is half the fun, right?
I vote for the ability to toggle quest markers on/off for the sake of the more casual crowd though, I can't see it being that hard to do.

I realize now that they created the quest markers in oblivion because of the complaints about Morrowind's system.
as M'aiq the Liar put it:
"M'aiq is glad he has a compass. Makes it easy to find things. Much better than wandering around like a fool.
