Quester or Collector?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:37 am

When Skyrim is released do you think you will focus more on the main quest or are you like me and you instantly delve into the world looking for riches. In Oblivion I both the dearest house I could and filled it with every unique item I could get my hands on.

Probably not a good multioption poll. Also, where's the "Explorer" choice? Normally I play open world games until I feel like I've "Seen the world" so to speak. I'm usually pretty good at pacing questing and exploration though.

The poll is rather strange. Because most of the time if you want to be a collector, you would have to do most of the quests anyway as that is the only way to get one-of-a-kind items.

Added extra option just for you.

Perhaps a Quester does quests for the experience (not points), but a Collector only really cares about the loot?
Incidentally does anyone else hate spelling experience? I always end up with too many vowels.

Edit: Just thought of a decent anology. Questers play Bioware games (Story driven), Collectors play Diablo (loot-fest).

This, though there should be a "become a ruthless killer" option as well.

I tend to keep a fair amount of the loot that I find. I know that people love to sell most of their stuff and generate untold riches, but I actually prefer to stockpile my suff. Nothing compares to me, to the feeling of heading home to search through my stacks of armor for that next piece that I want to enchant. I'm switching out my armor constantly, even after I've maxed out my leveling.

Not only that but I leave a lot of loot in dungeons. If I come across stacks of daedric weapons in a necromancer cave, I'm not going to drag all that heavy nonsense home with me. I leave it there because I already have a collection of that stuff, I don't need but one or two more pieces to replace the ones I that I'm using up.

I only sell when I need money for something, like repairs or a new house for some reason.

Nice idea but if I do more people will just want more options added, Questing and Collecting (and now exploring) are the main focus.

Wish I had you kind of sense in Oblivion, I just picked up every bit of rubbish I saw, magic or otherwise.

I find both games enjoyable. :D

(Although, in TES games I'm more of an Explorer/Packrat... I don't collect rare & unique stuff, I collect everything. The chests and lockers in my house in Oblivion or Fallout 3 are overflowing with all sorts of junk. Just because. :D)

I do all of the above, lol. I’m a loot-a-holic and cannot resist picking up that Rusty Iron Axe or 10mm pistol lying beside the skeleton or Fiend I just killed even though it ain’t worth much and I have probably 20 or more in a chest or locker at home. I simply cannot resist, lol. But also, I try to do every quest possible that makes sense for the character I’m playing and collect every unique item in the game if I can.

But I cannot deny the fact that collecting unique items and artifacts and putting them on display is certainly one of the most fun aspects of these games for me. I’ve modded huge display rooms for myself in Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. I’m sure after my first few days of play with Skyrim I will be cranking up the Creation Kit to start one for it as well.

Here's the final result of my display room I modded from the Glenvar Castle mod. I think that will explain where I'm coming from, lol.
