Questing after hitting lvl 30

Post » Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:34 pm

So I finally hit lvl 30 last night w/ my latest character.

Usually I don't get to lvl 30, at that point I've usually lost interest in that character or have already finished the game.

I still have quite a few thing to do in vegas before I'm satisfied w/ this ending, I just feel a bit unmotivated because there's no more lvls to chase and my character build is pretty complete. I'm basically just sorting out the faction stuff.

So do you continue to play after lvl 30? How do you keep your motivation and keep the game fun? Any advice for things to do with a lvl 30 character (outside of the main quest)? And don't say get the DLC or vault boy will start crying, again. I'm on ps3.

Maybe skill book hunting is the only left for this character. :(

I just... Play...
If I hit it early, fine, if I don't hit it at all, fine.
All I care about is doing what my character wants to do.
So just cause I hit the cap (which is 35 <_< for me) doesn't really make me lose any motivation.

unfortunately i'm a bit of a lvl chaser which IMO, kinda ruins RPGs for me. :(. Like if my character isn't getting / stronger better I don't fell like im accomplishing much.

Only advice for you is: try to slow down on leveling, exploring and killing stuff and focus more on quests and trying with diplomatic solutions over hostile one's.
That oughta slow things down for ya. :)

PC players (who got it from Steam) have various Steam achievements. Some are harder, like one for dealing 10000 damage unarmed (tough to get if you've been mostly gun-based), or one for 10000 damage with explosives, or using stimpacks to heal 10000 damage, etc. I don't own a console so I can't say if that's an option for you. However, I would think there are challenges you could work on, listed in your Pip Boy under Misc. in Data, I believe. Have you gotten banned from all the casinos for winning too much yet?

... Yes... Xbox and PS3 have achievements.... (PS3's is called Trophies though.)
And the achievements are all crap anyway. No reason to go out and achievement hunt as you'll get them all sooner or later anyway.

As some others have said, I just play the game. Leveling up is fun, but if I hit the cap it doesn't hurt my motivation at all. Since the economies in NV are more conservative than those of FO3 (esp. in hardcoe mode) I found that after I hit the cap I still had monetary goals to attain, so not leveling up didn't bother me even a little bit. I don't obsess about levels, though. When I see the level up screen I'm usually not expecting it...more like, "hey, look at that."

I never do things in the game that can earn me XP. That way I will NEVER reach level 30.

Brilliant, right? Right?!

Unfortunately, you will.
It creeps up on you even if you don't want it.

Given the amount of content in F:NV it seem like you would most certainly hit lvl 30 long before finishing.

On the characters I did "finish" with, I was kinda of sticking the the main quest.

Are most people at lvl 30 by the time they hit "the final battle" event? Just curious to see where others are at when the end the game.

I haven't come close to level 30 yet and im also on the ps3 but in fallout 3 i had the same situation as you, i enjoyed playing the game regardless of if i leveled up or not but i can see where your coming from.

I guess i would try discovering new locations, trying out different gameplay styles for your character or maybe weapons your not used to using, not sure if your into collecting ps3 trophies but you can always try to collect trophies if you haven't got them all already.

I stongly advise not deleting your current character even if ya are bored with him/her because an expansion pack should be out for the ps3 sometime(at least i hope so). Hoped this helped.

I usually dump all of my items into a container, then fast travel to a corner of the map, and set a goal of reaching the far corner.

I level slowly. My only character is a level 19, and thats the same from when I bought it the day after it was released. FO3 my main character ended at lv 15 at like 50 hours of gameplay.

Just like Dan said, I do quests because I want to play. No other motivation needed really.

I have been at level 30 since 12/18 (purchased on 11/5) with an average play time of 2-3 hrs/day. On 12/18 I still had like 15+ side quests to complete, and hadn't started any end-game questline, which are about another 10 quests. (I decided I will do a savegame and play each different scenario out because no factions have closed the door on me.) Granted, from the start, I didn't try to limit XP by shying away from gunfights or anything, but A) what fun would that be and B) it seemed like the side and end quests would still be entertaining even after reaching the inevitable level cap.

So to anyone mid-game, unless you're sprinting to the end of the game and ignoring side quests (which IMO really seems like a waste even if you're sick of hearing Dean Martin), get used to the idea that you will prolly reach L30 way before it's over.

I'm definitely doing this tonight. At the moment, i'm just trying to sell off around 10,000 pounds of STUFF. It's getting boring real quick.

Its entirely possible to hit LV 30 before you even finish the Main Quest. I beat the game at only LV 24 and I was no where near hitting LV 30 when I finished playing that file at LV 28. Will it slow down my motivation no it won't in fact my next character I'm gonna use Chet and just get to LV 30 and play the whole game without worrying about getting exp.

Lol true I found I some how got most on pc three - four weeks in.
Only hunted the food healing one, as I just wondered if it was even possible.
No matter what style of character I played, using whatever weapons, I never took anywhere near 10000 damage.
So I let deathclaws, nightstalkers and fire geckos beat me up for kicks.
Now I have to do the same with stimpacks and finally collect all those snowglobes in one run, rather than one each game, but I really can't be arsed.

On topic, try out everything at least once.
Then go over it again with new combos, then find little things you missed.
Then try and kill the toughest things at level 1 - 8, and see what is denied you untill at a later level.
All combined with finding new roles and making fresh backgrounds.

It's really an issue with this game (for me) because there aren't many enemies to fight

if they upped the humanoid enemy count in NV i think i would stay motivated to play my lvl 30 characters more

but, as of now the amount is low, and that is why i restarted both my level 30 characters

The same reason I you know play the game in the first place. To see what happens next! I don't get quests to just "grind for XP" I'm seeing what happens when I do it this way or that way and how the NPC's react and so forth.

try to get all trophies/achievments, discover all locations, do all quests, meet all NPCs, and collect all uniques that'll keep you occupied.
