Question about Argonian bloodlines.

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:58 am

So, I'm trying to make my story for my Argonian in Skyrim. Problem is, I want him to be related to my Oblivion/Morrowind Argonian. But I don't know how family timelines work for Argonians. Argonians can change genders in their lives, so that kind of messes it up. Do Argonians have a choice on if they change genders?

Don't know exactly how to explain, and I can't find much information on how Argonians reproduce. Do, ya, a lore lecture would be nice. Thanks :D

I am pretty sure its ya typical couple raising a kid like all other families around them. Age wise, its a bit too unknown as to how old they can really be, not to mention other factors like how they live (royalty live the longest while poorest is below the dead age), magic (arguably can extend life), and life style that would not get the person kill in one second.

Gender changing wise, there is really no source (not from uesp) that is legit, and the one from Morrowind description questionable as there is really no other proof via book, the dev's mouth, anything ingame, etc that indicate that this gender swap is true.

Oh and if I remember correctly, the PC from Morrowind is immoral by age (ya won't grow old, but a bunch of stab wound will kill ya).

Of course, I might not be right.

Yeah, the Nerevarine is infected with corpus (with the negative symptoms neutralized), so he will never be vulnerable to age or disease. As long as no one kills him (and that's not likely), he'll live forever.

Oh, well my Morrowind PC never played as a Nerevarine in his story.

Argonians breed, and when they reach advlthood, they lick the Hist, become one with the Hist, and the Hist changes the argonian based upon what it wants the argonian to do.

As for gender changing, you got the idea all wrong. The argonians see themselves as extensions of the Hist. In addition, the argonians lack any sort of time placement in their language, showing that they see time as an illusion. In this case, referring to genders as "life phases" would make sense in the context that they
  • Do not view time linearly
  • Believe to be extensions of the Hist and are soul recycled through them
So, when they die, they're also born again in a new body.

Also, the only mention of their gender changing "life phases" was only in the Morrowind manual, and no mention of this has ever been said. Ever. Only the manual. Nothing else. Take it with a [censored] ton of salt, and ignore the gender changing life phase stuff.

Ok, awesome thanks for the information. So, Argonians breed normally, just they go lick the Hist when they are old enough. That's what I'm understanding. I'm guessing my Oblivion/Morrowind PC would be the great-grandfather of my Skyrim PC?

Maybe. No one really knows how long argonians live.

Also, if your argonian was the nerevarine, he's immortal, so he'll still be around and kicking.

Just seems extremely coincidental that my Argonian is the Nerevarine, saved the world from Oblivion, and is now a Dragonborn. But hey, might just do that and make things 10 times easier haha.

Ya thats what I'm doing for my Argonian. I've gone to make up little side stories as to how and why he moved from each game. Makes things a bit more satisfying.

I did forget about the part about being immortal though... That will definitly help as far as age goes.
